The ATG Teams General arguing/discussing thread

the way cricket chat works is that the regulars have their say and since we have all known each other for 15 years or so, we call really stupid things stupid and move on. we have made our points for a decade and repeating them is ****ing boring. so we try and get to know each other better as people and socialize. this cricket in depth discussion **** is boring unless it is technical **** that is being discussed or lighthearted trolling. and everyone loves piling on a new **** coming in and acting like a snob.
Fair enough. Especially these trying times put things in to perspective.

But my point being, even if the regulars don't post or re do the same discussions, it's not nice to see that line of arguments and I just pointed that out. Not that I care awful lot about it

Recently I saw this cricinfo article where anantha said shakib is better than sobers putting across some random numbers. Sobers had the better moustache too. Just utter madness.

sounds exactly like this forum's indians trying to compare Jadeja to actual atgs. Bizzare

interesting statistical exercise, doesn't really prove anything except that perhaps the gap between Shakib's bowling record and Sobers' bowling record is slightly greater than the gap between their batting records. But we all know Sobers was a better bowler than his record indicates, and arguably a better batsman too given the era he played in - this exercise does not factor in how much easier batting was for the early part of Shakib's career.

Burgey commenting on quality of other people's posts is like Kim Jong Un commenting on other country's record on human rights.
Indian fans commenting on cricket is like Lenin commenting on the long term economic viability of the Soviet Union.

15 years and 77K posts and no test series victories in India and England. Most sane people would be driven crazy by that kind of lack of success, let alone someone like him. An incredible amalgam of unprecedented mediocrity and fruitless longevity. i just hope the desperate, persevering soul finds some light at the end of the day.

As of now, his figures look like 176.5-0-851-0

Can't justify 3 spinners unless it's a dust bowl tbh. Kapil, Zaheer and Bumrah are a decent attack. Ashwin is the first spinner I'd pick. Not sold on the second spinner though you could go with Jadeja if you consider his batting but he is a significant downgrade from Kumble as a bowler and I don't think he'd contribute much with the bat if he was facing another ATG attack. Although Kumble turns the ball in the same direction as Ashwin so maybe Prasanna I guess. Heard some good things about him
Yeah, definitely take your point and I went back and forth on that myself as I was uncomfortable with just two quicks and stacking the side with spinners - completely agree that there are pitches that wouldn't work on at all and it would be a horses-for-courses situation.

Where I was coming from was simply trying to make the Indian side most effective relative to the other all-time sides they'd be up against in this kind of hypothetical situation - the quicks you mention do indeed comprise a "decent" attack (in fact, it's a very good attack) but still well behind the pace attacks of at least five or six other teams at this level, whereas India's spinners would be more than a match for almost any other team and would cause far more havoc in favourable conditions against the opposing batsmen than I think those seamers would (again, relatively speaking). Definitely more of a dustbowl attack for sure though, and less likely to consistently take 20 wickets in unhelpful conditions.

Also, did you know that Kumble and Ashwin don't spin the ball in the same direction? I don't think anyone else has picked you up on it.

It's only really England that's important though and there's been plenty of success there over the years.

The best The Sean moment (that I can remember) was when he was doing a something like a top fifty (or something, I can't remember the exact number) cricketers and a new fake The Sean account put Don Bradman at number 8. It took some people a long time to realise it was a joke. I don't think silentstriker ever did.
