Vettori is a decent shout actually but Shakib is a better all-rounder for me. And then it's a case of figuring out the best guy to partner Shakib and I think Moeen and maybe Afridi somewhere in the order are the best bets. Maybe Hooper ahead of Moeen?

Viv was very good in the slips. Not quite as elite as those I referenced imo, close though. I could be wrong, but I don't recall him making the difficult / spectacular catches, but never really saw him drop much either.

The other 3 weren't quite ATG batsmen.


One possible future name could be Kohli. He isn't always in there, but when he is in 3rd he is not bad at all, very clean when I've seen him.

Jayawardene was a quality slipper. Stephen Fleming was even better but didn't score the runs he should've as a batsman.

Kohli's taken some good ones recently, but has a reputation for dropping quite a few (been better in recent times though). Rahane is usually very good, but he's dropped several catches recently.

Kohli's dropped more than anyone I've seen in that 14-18 period. Improved slowly since then and has taken a few stunners, but I don't think I'll ever be comfortable calling him superb.

Jayawardene was elite but maybe falls short on the batting front.

It really is a very difficult and specialised aspect of the game and why the great ones were / are so valuable. The 2nd slip position in particular is so vital.

And Kohli seems to be improving but still have some way to go to join the list.
