The ATG Teams General arguing/discussing thread

Yeah it took a very powerful confluence of circumstances to give England the victory in that series. How many times was Martyn sawn off by horrid umpiring? How many tests would England have win if it wasn't for a stray cricket ball for McGrath to stand on? How cheaply might England have been dismissed for if Warne hadn't dropped Pieterson (a sitter) on the final day?

It was an ATG series and that Australian side was as good as any that have ever graced the paddock but a huge part of its charm was due to a combination of strange external and internal factors.
I'd say the murray mints ball tampering and the famous reverse swing that it resulted in had a bigger influence than all those factors put together tbh. The weather too. A genuinely freakish alliance of factors. It's what made it such an interesting series.

It really was the best series I can remember, and that comes from a staunch Aussie supporter. It had a real aura about it, proper contest. I loved the fact that it was the first time someone had taken it right up to Australia in years. I think all of Hayden, Langer and Ponting were pinged on the head on the first morning.

Langer said he knew from the moment him and Hayden came out on the first morning this England team was very different to previous ones. They weren't a significantly better side than Aust, but they played well as a team.

Final thought - anyone who ever thinks Warne is an overrated cricketer needs to watch that series. He was ****ing immense.

Yeah. Imagine if Warne was the only decent bowler in his side and his country doctored wickets to sit his style.

The aura that Sachin created in every India match that he played can never be matched by anyone before or after his era. I am quite surprised that his name is missing from the initial list.

International Vice-Captain
From the players I have watched, the blokes who would take the bull by its horn, and at the same time being flamboyant, charismatic, dashing and having a distinct aura about them.

Opening with Viv is something which I look forward to.

It's Tayfield, hands down. Or Maharaj if you go post readmission.

Maharaj has so much potential. Shame he hasn't lived up to it in his most recent outings.
