yep, agree with thisNot at all. With Dhoni in the side there is absolutely no need for Gilchrist.
He really wouldn't. Nowhere near good enough with the ball to justify a spot as an all rounder which number 7 demands.Symonds would be a great choice for #7 in am ATG side. Only Klusener would be competition really. I'd probably pick Symonds in the subcontinent and Klusener outside (or at least in Australia).
Eh, Viv wasn't that special post-WSC. #haterThat's a pretty fine post-wsc team that.
Agree with this.ATG ODI XI batting order comes down to one question - where are we playing?
In the SC:
Jayasuria
Tendulkar
Richards
Kohli
ABDV
Dhoni
Outside the SC:
Gilchrist
Tendulkar
Ponting
Richards
ABDV
Bevan
IMO of course.
I think you should go with Jaya/Dhoni or Gilchrist/Bevan. The former has a decent bowler and the latter has better batting outside the subcontinent.
Ponting vs Kholi is a tough one though. Ponting was so very excellent for so many years and lead his team to two world cup wins. So he gets the nod outside the SC. Kholi's subcontinent record is just too immense to ignore.
Except that with Jayasuria in the team he'd be the 6th bowler, who would need to get through 5 overs max.He really wouldn't. Nowhere near good enough with the ball to justify a spot as an all rounder which number 7 demands.
Feel like klusener's peak was small period of 3-4 years and people remember him mostly for that.He also had a tendency to leak runs badly on off days.Kallis? Seriously? Klusener was much more valuable than Kallis.
Watson in a ATG team.If you want an all rounder for their bowling you're better off with Pollock. Klusener was massive with the bat and very good with the ball.
Watson would be a good choice if you wanted a fast bowling batting all rounder. Certainly better than Kallis in the format.
Watson in an ATG odi team is faaar from laughable.Watson in a ATG team.
Dean Jones and Bracken probably deserve consideration. I reckon Mark Waugh makes the selection of Watson a bit tricky in an ATG Australian ODI team.Watson has better stats than Jayasuria. He averaged 40@90 with the bat and 32 going <5 rpo with the ball. Jayasuria averaged 32@91 with the bat and 36 going at 4.8 rpo with the ball. Jaya had the longevity but an argument could be made that Watson could open with Tendulkar in an AT XI.
Australia probably has an AT XI lineup of:
Watson
Gilchrist
Ponting
Bevan
Chappell G
Hussey
Symonds
Warne
Starc (Lee if you think Starc hasn't done enough)
Lillee
McGrath
I just don't see the need for Gilchrist when Dhoni is around. Unless you are making a case for Dhoni not belonging to an AT World XIDean Jones and Bracken probably deserve consideration. I reckon Mark Waugh makes the selection of Watson a bit tricky in an ATG Australian ODI team.
I'd definitely pick Jayasuriya as an opener over Watson in a world XI. He wasn't always consistent, but not many dominated bowlers like he did when he was in the mood. I also feel he was a better bowler in this format than Watson. Having said that, I'm more likely to just pick Gilchrist and Tendulkar in a world XI if it was up to me.
Yep. Dhoni is really not good enough to be in an AT XI outside Asia. At least, not when Gilchrist is the competition.Dhoni in the subcontinent, Gilchrist outside.
really? off the top of my head i can't remember Dhoni being bad in any country other than SA. Where exactly other than maybe Aus and SA would you consider Gilchrist better than Dhoni?Yep. Dhoni is really not good enough to be in an AT XI outside Asia. At least, not when Gilchrist is the competition.
