Like the Batting strength of the Tail, a variation would be to Miller (Haddle / Imran) instead of Cairns. Miller would fit quite nicely as 46 to 55

to follow on from the discussion in Smali's thread and not to derail that one, there are a couple of reasons why Wasim isn't as highly rated on CW, but we have been through that before. I agree with Monk to a certain extent that I don't have that much of a problem with Akran making the Cricinfo's team. That is if he was selected because of his versatility and the ability to reverse swing the old ball and not because he was the third best bowler of All Time.

So basically which is the better attack ours or Cricinfo's

CW
Marshall, McGrath, Imran, Warne

or

Cricinfo
Marshall, Lillee, Akram, Warne

Red

The normal awards that everyone else has
It's splitting hairs because I'd be more than happy with either attack really.

I'm a massive fan of Lillee, and my preferred attack would be Lillee, McGrath, Wasim and Warne.

But really, any of the top 15 pacemen aren't worth arguing over.

Brett Lee
Shane Warne (c)

Notes: I don't know how to choose from Bracken and Lillee. Symonds could be chosen over Watson, but I wanted a more stable fifth bowler. Have to have Warne as the skipper.

Notes: Cracking pace battery. There were many hard choices here. Cullinan, McMillan, Adams as the spinning option, Dippenaar, Smith, Rhodes. But I like this. Cronje's place is the most shaky, of course. So is Steyn's (which seems ridiculous on its face)! Kirsten has proved himself a great strategist.

Notes: Zaheer is unlucky to miss out. I won't mind him replacing either Agarkar or Srinath. Fifth bowler to be a mix of Yuvi, Raina, Sehwag, Tendulkar and Sourav (all of them have bowled, even Kohli for that matter!!)

Notes: Afridi misses out, Razzaq being the more stable all-round choice. I went for Younis as the opener because I can't think of a single player better than him for that, even Sohail.

Notes: I am cheating here, but who cares when I can technically select Sobers. Plus I can't think of anybody else, and Gayle's not a good enough fifth bowling option. If pressed, then I would take Kanhai and risk Gayle.

I would make 3 changes there, Rahul Dravid in place of Sehwag, Mohm. Azharuddin in place of Suresh Raina and Zaheer Khan in place of Ajit Agarkar....and the order would also change a bit...

@harsh Agarkar instead I'd Zaheer? You've got to be kidding me. Zaheer was the prime reason we won the world cup. More than Yuvraj, more than Tendulkar, Zaheer produced the key wickets virtually every time we needed one. Brilliant with the new ball, best in the world at reversing the old ball, and practically without exception he got a breakthrough with his 2nd spell with the old ball. And you're ignoring this man for some skinny little medium pacer who got loads of wickets in meaningless ODIs? For shame

And I'm not even mentioning how expensive Agarkar always was regardless of whether he took wickets or not

Read my notes on the Indian Team - I will reproduce it here

I don't feel so strongly about it. Zaheer's peak, though fantastic, was quite short, and he hasn't been nearly the same either side of it. Srinath and Agarkar were, for a long time, good in attacks which didn't provide them much support. And Agarkar's wicket taking capacity is quite invaluable, I think.

Fair enough. I do admit I rate Zaheer above Agarkar mainly just for that awesome world cup show, but Agarkar was just a bit too expensive for my liking. Never knew if he would get 4-40 or 1-80. He was capable of losing us the match just as he was of winning one
