Far from an expert but an attempt at a Yorkshire side to play Rest of England.

Boycott
Sutcliffe
Hutton*
Root
Brook
Bairstow+(??)
Rhodes
Verity
Gough
Trueman
Hoggard

Some other players I considered were Stanley Jackson, Maurice Leyland and George Hirst. I’m also quite likely to have missed someone.

To play:

Hobbs
Cook*
Hammond
Barrington
May/Compton
Botham
Knott+
Laker
Statham
Barnes
Anderson

Thoughts? Changes?

You missed Hammond in the 2nd team. Rest of it is pretty much fine.

think Yorkshire has a problem with the pacer department, I think Wardle can come in for Hoggard but Leyland was a brilliant batter and would greatly strengthen the batting so I went with him. Trueman and Gough as the new ball bowlers, Verity and Rhodes the main spinners

Hmm. That’s probably why Boycs picked Hirst in his side. Left arm pacer, stats not dissimilar to Rhodes Crazy they had both at the same time, though Hirst never enjoyed the success of Rhodes at test level.

Hirst as far as I know, was a disaster on the hard good wickets of Australia, was absolutely terrible in his first tour, in his second tour the numbers are a little better looking but it should be mentioned that he got 5/48 in the final test after a lot of rain had fallen on monday and rendered the wicket a sticky and thus allowed him to finally bowl a good spell, before that rain, Hirst had taken 10 wickets in 9 innings at 40 a piece. Don't really think much of him, that's why I think two pacers and then spinners is the way for the Yorkshire XI.

Imo, if you are making a CC team, one of the County big 4s are a must. Hirst averages 17 and 34..... And given their pace department and him being one of the trailblazers for both swing and body line, yeah will have him.

Woolley really? I mean makes sense since picking Hirst too mainly based on FC but I don’t think he belongs if we’re including tests.

Sachin, Viv, Mcgrath, Akram, Garner, Donald, Murali and Warne would get into every nation's all time Test XI, as well as all time ODI XI imo. Are there any others, and would you leave out any of these in any of the XIs?
I don't think Garner or Donald make Australia's all time Test team (though that also has a lot to do with the structure of the side), and I think they're line ball on each other's. Would otherwise agree with the rest.

what a sneak, and dude, if you want to have Cook then forget about Compton and have May at 5, so he can be the captain, Cook was the most hopeless captain I saw in Test Cricket.

Meh I didn’t really give it much thought tbh.

Actually I’d go Hammond. Maybe.
