The 5 worst fast bowlers who average below 25

He needs 3000 runs more to come. He should go there in 4 years, at least close to that (like 15k)
1. He won’t play on that long, or suffer a serious loss of form
2. Other alternative is for him to get there in 2-3 years which would require some insane production
3. Or if he does suffer a loss in form but it’s not Kohli bad he hangs around for 5-6 more years which also seems a stretch

I’ve said that he’s much more likely to break Sachin’s record for a while now (vs the last time it was brought up with Cook), but it’s by no means a foregone conclusion. It would require a lot of things to go right, and things can change quickly in sport as we saw with Kohli.

Yeah, it's definitely not a certainty. Just said if he does his job in AUS next ashes, that'll make his path clearer. Definitely scoring 800 runs for 4 years each will be hard for someone his age.

Wait why is Root getting 16,000 runs a certainty? He won’t.
He will most probably get there is what I always say, but I don't mind if he retires at 14-15k with 50 average, I love Sachin and would love for either him or Root to keep the record.

1. he's def playing until 2027

I think he'll play until 2027 Ashes definitely, and if his form is with him he'd go for the record, if he's at 15k there's no reason to not just go for it imo.

Root is just 34 years old and he needs just 2900 odd runs. There is a very high chance he is going to break the record and it will most likely stay forever. He has scored 3442 runs in the last 3 years at an average of 53.77 and scored 13 centuries & 12 fifties.

He has to play ten tests against Australia in the next 2.5 years so he's going to need to find 2,700 of those runs elsewhere.

He has around 28 tests till end of Ashes 2027.
(11 vs Aus). Think he can get around 15K by then. He'd need to play another year to get 16K. (2028) Playing another year would depend on a lot of things - some out of his hand. But chasing the record may hurt his average.

1/2 chance of getting 16K
1/3 chance of having a 'big' series in Australia
1/4 chance of finishing with 50+ average
