Who was the better cricketer in tests, odis?

Tendulkar, the highest run scorer, made a lot of impact in tests, odis. Scored both home and away and against great bowling attacks.

Murali, a very decisive, key bowler for Sri Lanka. One of the greatest spin bowlers.

Imran, a great fast bowler, also very handy with the bat in tests and odis. One of the greatest all rounders and fast bowlers. Could make it into the team as a bowler or batsman. Made decisive contributions.

Imran slightly ahead of Tendulkar in tests, Sachin greater in ODIs slightly than Murali. Overall Sachin, since the gap is
less in tests between him and Imran, but large in ODIs

Imran was an ATG fast bowler and could make the team as a batsmen too. Add his great captaincy too.

Close call.

Imran > Sachin ~ Murali, Imran easy #1 for me, I will put Sachin ahead of Murali if I really had to but not a lot between them.

I think Imran Khan is considerably greater than the other two. His allround contribution was insane. A truly ATG bowler (in the early 80s he may have been the finest ever seen), a really good MO bat, a brilliant captain and an erudite gent to boot. He was some cricketer.

If we include both formats Tendulkar very very marginally. Otherwise Imran
It is not that clear though. Murali probably is ahead with the primary discipline in tests, and about par in ODIs. Tendulkar's bowling however tilts the balance.
