Obviously Kohli. His 2018 tour was better than Sachin 2010(Rabada, Philander and Morkel were all at their peak, even Ngidi was good, and the pitches were horrible). Plus he was brilliant in 2013 vs Steyn and Co.

Idk about who was better but Kohli definitely had the best series of the two vs a better attack in RSA.

Kohli in 2018 vs Tendulkar in 10/11 is pretty close IMO
Edge Kohli. Why? 2018 simply had better bowling. Steyn for one test but the other 2 he was ably replaced by Ngidi on Rsa pitches. Then the other three were Rabada, Philander and Morkel. The first two are otherworldly on home wkts. In 2011, Sachin faced Steyn and Morkel. Challenging attack but not as good as what kohli faced.

Whoever mentioned 2013 was right on the money. Steyn, Morkel and G mode Philander. Better than what Sachin faced in 2010 and Kohli was better.

Given the above, edge kohli. Sachin did squat vs the great attacks of rsa in the 90s and all of those were on par or maybe even a bit inferior to what Kohli faced. Kohli has never really faced a weak attack in RSA and has averaged 40+ in all series there. Didn't know that. Amazing really.

I give Kohli the edge overall.

Kohli was massively impressive in his first series against peak Steyn and Philander, and has been more consistent in averaging over 40 in every series since. He also seemed more dominant in such conditions.

It is close though because Tendulkar has a hundred as a teen against Donald there and then a splendid hundred against peak Donald/Pollock, but until his last uber series in SA against Steyn his overall record in SA was subpar.

This isn't true. He has three tons in that era against either Donald, Pollock or both. But overall wasn't as a productive as Kohli until the last series.

Kohli is close friends with AB D, must have spilled all the secrets to bat on SA pitches during IPL parties.

I meant he had no decent series overall. Scoring 100 does not mean he was successful overall. His average with both Pollock and Donald is poor. You already know this...

He averages over 40 in two series against either Donald/Pollock and then in the 30s in two, until the last series where he averaged 81.

Kohli averages 68, 47, 40 and 43.

So overall Kohli was more consistent but is not greatly better.
