There seems to be a lot of debate over which mango is best. The Australian mango is convinced that it is the best mango in the world, but the Indian and South African mangoes are also convinced they are the best mango in the world respectively. But the stats show that the Indian mango is the best in the world.
The West Indian mango, home of the mango Sobers, a native mango from Barbados, was a top quality mango in the 80's and early 90's, but it's quality has reduced dramatically. Thankfully there are some quality mangoes coming through that can hopefully increase their value. The South African mango is an interesting one, on it's day, its one of the best mangoes in the world, also home to the mango Ntini, a mango that was not quite what it used to be, and the mango Zulu has not been seen in years. However, all the top quality South African mangoes seem intent on becoming English mangoes. Even some of the better Irish mangoes want to become English mangoes. How will the Barmy Army, a group of English people who travel the world following, and inspecting, the best mangoes around the world, react? Is nothing sacred?
The New Zealand mango is a solid working class mango that punches above it's weight. The mango O'Brien had cult following all over the world. Sadly the mango O'Brien is not around anymore. Sri Lankan mangoes are a quality bunch, and often underrated, especially back in Sri Lanka. However, I have to inform you, that it is best to avoid Pakistani mangoes, unless you are very brave, as you might not know what you will get.
Sadly though for the Zimbabwean and Bangladeshi mangoes, despite their best efforts, there a lot of people posting on internet forums claiming they are not a real mango. What do they have to do get recognised as a mango?
I bet they are from the anti mango mafia.
