Tendulkar/Lara vs Murali/Warne vs Kapil/Imran/Hadlee/Botham

Yeah Warne and Murali closest.

Sachin > Lara
Imran > the others all rounders
Warne/ Murali toss up, no matter what supposed experts say.

What’s even crazier is that we have two spinners like Ashwin and Jadeja now
They're not really at the Warne/Murali level of greatness as spinners. But Jadeja is making a distinctive mark as a spin bowling all rounder. We haven't had too many of those.

I'll go Tendulkar / Lara as the closest.

The all-rounders are the most straightforward. Imran stands head and shoulders above as an all-rounder.

While I agree Imran was the best, is it really that clear cut over Hadlee.

They are primarily bowlers and Hadlee is stronger there. That counts for something?

That's why I say "as all-rounders". As bowlers, and overall cricketers it could be closer ( Hadlee edges as a bowler ).

But as an all-rounder in the normal sense of the word it's not particularly close.

I do think it is close between them. If you add captaincy, then not so much.

While the batting difference may not seem significant, it is much more of achievement to be ATG level in one discipline yet still capable of being a regular in an XI in your second discipline.

O’Reilly, Grimmett/ Verity would be more than acceptable top 3 ranking of Spinners before Warne/ Murali arrived. Not any sort of rivalry as Tiger was clearly better. But incredible for probably the 3 greatest spinners of over first 100 years to arrive at same time.

I’ll still take Laker > Verity personally but thats just me.

Why? Don't most consider Warne better?
Think Lara over Tendulkar is outside the box. Hadlee or Botham over Imran is outside the box. Not sure I'd say Murali over Warne (or vice versa) is outside the box. Warne's bigger reputation is partially objective but also partially subjective.

Lara over Tendulkar isn't out of the box at all, it's a fair minority. Same with Murali over Warne I guess.

Whatever it takes!!!
Murali easily > Warne by a bigger distance than Lara is > Sachin. But they are still reasonably close though. The 4 allrounders debate is a bit more nuanced than these IMO.

I get that with longevity and such that Sachin is better, but I don't get the sentiment that he's somehow distinctly behind.
