anzac said:I didn't think they picked that up until after the '92 WC in AUS / NZL..........the first time I can recall them using a 'pinch hitter' to open with was Kalu in the '95 - '96 B&H series v AUS & WI...............
I remember Kalu was failing batting down the order on their AUS tour & they gave him a go as Opener in the ODIs (because of injury??? / last resort) - he came out blazing & they kept him opening..............
otherwise I'd say that NZL had a hand in it with promoting Greatbatch to Open in the '92 WC..........just that they didn't persist with it after him.........
but Srikkanth was a an opening batsman, justa very aggressive oneDeja moo said:Naaah...pinch hitting starte with India opening with Krish Srikkanth.....started very much earlier.....atleast since the 83 WC .

That's cos I didn't notice it until it sped towards my nose.Neil Pickup said:Hakon didn't bowl!
He's a big girl who wouldn't even catch the nice lobbed return catch that our 11 year old batsman hit right at him...

Actually, I did bowl one ball (Hingston tried to teach me), but I think it'd be classed as a slow-medium full toss.
The RD&E's not far away, anyway...Richard said:Don't believe in the old private healthcare myself, big believer in The NHS.
And anyway, I've faced quicker Bouncers than yours and come out unhurt - I'm normally OK at avoiding injury, just not great at scoring.
But as I say, maybe I might find a newfound incentive to play the old hooks...
Shame I won't be needing it.Neil Pickup said:The RD&E's not far away, anyway...
Is that a challenge?Richard said:Shame I won't be needing it.
