Yes, until they figure out sideway movement is his achillies heal, and then Garner and Marshall will make short work of him with them dukes under cloud cover, the same thing that happened with an overwhelmingly inferior English attack in 2005
Plus Murray mints.

It is, Windies would tamper the ball too, and you'd just have an infinitely greater attack than the 2001/5 Ashes ones to tame Ponting.
And Ponting would not do anything about it it seems. What happened when that Ashes attack toured Australia?

Ponting tamed Wasim and Waqar too. That is way more quality than English attack.

In Australia, Australia is significantly flatter than England normally, in this context he's playing for England so England would be his home games.

And West Indies will be way flatter too.

Don't think others will be good enough to trouble him. May be Kapil Dev a little, and Imran bit more than a little.

Edit: I forgot Hadlee.

But most of these are one off bowlers.

West Indies of the time was not flat though, fast, inconsistent bounce and good seam movement, those tracks were prepared for their pacers.

Even then I am sure he woukd average twice with the bat as Botham

South Africa most of the time had an attack as good as WI, that too in super helpful conditions. Remind me Ponting's average against them.

he would, but then again, they won't win anything in Windies anyway while Botham would win them a lot more at home and just about everywhere else.

Ricky Ponting was great vs pace but against 80s WI in the Caribbean he better wear a good helmet. We saw what Steve Harmisson did to him. And no Migara, South Africa never had a pace attack as good as 80s Windies not the one with: Holding, Garner and Marshall or even Ambrose, Bishop and Walsh.

Still though, Ricky is one of the few modern batsmen who I think would do well vs WI pace overall.

Its a tragedy Steyn was in decline and constantly missing by the time Rabada came along.

I was more or less thinking of Donald, de Villiers, Pollock and Schultz mix with Matthews, Kallis and McMillan as support cast in various stages from mid to late 90s. That attack had plenty of variations.

Yeah I’m just thinking on what could’ve been. Between Rabada’s debut and Steyn’s retirement SA played 40 tests. Steyn played just 13.
