I think there are some personalities who are a bit a complex, and Symonds seems to be one of them, for a public figure and that too an international cricketer he is hardly politically correct or diplomatic in his conduct, and he can possibly piss some people off due to that sort of a behaviour, and when now the guy is down these people are having a whale of a time in bashing him.
"Complex" is not the word i'd have used. I believe he fell out with Ed Smith over being portrayed as a rank simpleton.

i wish PCb ever had balls like that to discipline its cricketers in early 90's and then shoaib in first few years of his career

With today's squad unsurprisingly not featuring Symonds, is his international career now over? It's not like he's 27 with time to turn it round; if the powers that be think that a guy in his 30s isn't up to it mentally, it's hard to see them changing their mind.

I know this isn't the most original thought, but I think some people expected him to still be picked V India, kinda like when Flintoff got dropped for the Canada game in the WC but was recalled as soon as a proper opponent came along

I'm on CW record as saying six months ago that Symonds would not be playing international cricket by the end of this Summer. To be honest, I can see why a guy who has signed a $1.4 million contract each year for the next two years, may want to go through with that (and play just six weeks per year) rather than travel around for nine months and earn probably less by playing for Australia. Not everybody has the Baggygreen as part of their DNA. Some people like the easy money, with less pressure - which is fine.

My only beef is, decide one way or another. Don't play for Australia if you're only going to be disruptive and half-arsed about it.

The wrinkle in that plan would be that CA can contractually prevent Symonds from playing IPL if for disciplinary reasons.

The inference that Symonds' is less than committed to playing Test cricket for Australia is bit rough considering he turned down what would have been a pretty regular spot for England in the 90's and has had numerous opportunities to demonstrate whether he's in it for the money or not and gone the other way instead. Question his attitude, discipline and technique but if there's been a constant theme in his career it's that he's a;ways been desperate to play Tests for Australia. Definitely wouldn't have gotten there in the first place otherwise.

Very well said T_C, Symmo might be stupid and irresponsible but his desire to play for Australia and do well should never be doubted.

No-one could produce the type of results that he has over the past 2 years unless they were 100% committed to the task

This is about personalities, it has zero to do with commitment

Putting Symonds' behaviour into perspective

36 members of the is organistion have been accused of spousal abuse
7 have been arrested for fraud
19 have been accused of writing bad cheques
117 have directly or indirectly bankrupted at least 2 businesses
3 have done time for assault
71, repeat 71 cannot get a credit card due to bad credit
14 have been arrested on drug-related charges
8 have been arrested for shoplifting
21 currently are defendants in lawsuits and
84 have been arrested for drunk driving in the last year

Can you guess which organization this is?

Australian Football League? No

National Rugby League? No

Australian First Class Cricket? No

Give up yet? . .. .

Scroll down

Neither,

it's the 535 members of the AUSTRALIAN PARLIAMENT IN CANBERRA

The same group of Idiots that crank out hundreds of new laws each year,
designed to keep the rest of us in line !!!!!!!!!

And they say Symonds needs therapy
Using a fake/outdated/stupid Internet rumour/chain e-mail doesn't help put Symonds' behaviour into perspective or help your credibility.
2006 and the stats are accurate because an expose was held into the performance of our "leaders"

I couldnt be bothered to check the link but anyone who is familiar with Australian cricket would agree a different set of "standards" has been applied to Symonds than the normal person

IMO, the only thing that matters are his performances (why else would a selector, Jamie Cox confirm same if it wasn't true) and to have his mental health called into question is absolutely disgraceful

I dont particularly like Symonds but I'm incredibly sick of the do-gooders who claim that behaviour has deteriorated lately - bs

If Symonds is unfit, then Ponting, Hayden, most of the Indian team , Pak and SA are gone as well.

What's more, the majority of Oz and WI teams from 74 - 90 would never have taken the field

Basically, it's all crap
NO the stats clearly aren't accurate - they're made up! Ffs, even the mention of 535 members of the Australian Parliament should throw up a red flag - there aren't anywhere close to 535 members of the Australian Parliament, that's the United States Congress (435 in the House of Reps and 100 Senators).

I can't believe social tried to use that as some form of back-up to his argument. When did it last rain in his part of the world, as I'm assuming he caught a trip down in the last shower.

Dumped Symonds back in the nets.

Good news this if you are a Symmo fan, i think this pretty much shows that Symonds has no intention of walking away from the game, so i hope he gets his head straight and comes back to entertain all of us again.

This is great news. He is sticking with Cricket, which is great, exactly what we need. However, the problem is when he will return to Cricket. I think he should start this season in the Sheffield Shield, to see what he can do. I think he shouldn't play against New Zealand when they come over, unless he is gunning it with the bat, average in excess of 50, comfortably. The main reason for this is, despite playing limited matches against him, Vettori has the edge, and from what I have seen, Vettori is a much better cricketer than Symonds. He troubles him with his spinners, and Symonds should not return then, because he may be dominated, which is not good for a character like him, especially if it is his return to the side. I say leave him out until we tour to South Africa, where he can get back into the swing of things before his likely last Ashes series, the 2009 one to be held in England.

One thing on his side is fitness. He is really fit for a big bloke, and I can distinctly remember a match earkier in the year when he hit four two's to fine leg off consecutive deliveries. That demonstrated how fit he really is.

Just when you thought it couldnt become any more farcical, now we have a guy that's been convicted of being a drug cheat and of taking money from bookies, etc etc etc etc sticking the boot into Symonds because of his behaviour

I know Warnies not the sharpest knife in the drawer, so I wont bother calling him names he won't understand i.e. hypocrite
Haha, can't help but agree with you on this. Is pretty rich coming from Warne.
