drop mcgrath..bring on waqar...waqar is aggresive bowler and batsman

where's good ol afridi? attacking batsman bowler and fielder!
Afridi has to be one of the worst batsman to play test cricket. Just because its an attacking XI doesn't mean Afridi should get in. We need players who bat well despite attacking. Afridi on the other hand is not good enough to be even in Pak ODI team, let alone being picked in test team. Everyone I mentioned is a regular part of their respective test outfits.

I would drop Langer and Jacobs, put Boycott opening and move Kirsten to 3 Hussain 4 etc, Russell to replace Jacobs. IMO Warne needs replacing aswell

8. Cairns
9. Klusener

...makes more sense

Attacking:

- Lara is not always attacking. He is also brilliant in defence and plays under circumstance.

Defensive:

- Langer is far too attacking to be in that side.

- Same with Warne

- And McGrath

- Jacobs can be either Defensive or Aggresive.

Agree with all this.

Tendulkar has not been a very attacking batsman for at least 2 years now as well.

Gibbs, Tendulkar, Lara play perfect defence as well when needed. They cannot be dubbed attacking batsmen, but rather more complete batsmen.

Langer, Waugh, Ridley Jacobs, and Warne can attack very well too. They are also more of the complete players. Langer especially attacks a lot nowadays. Hence I dont see how they make the team. Dravid maybe ? Butcher ?

Also I don't think Gayle is worthy of spot in attacking XI ahead of Hayden. What about Viv Richards ? Akram ? Kapil ?

This may of been an interesting thread, if everyone had not been so confused  hehe.

Yes, Gillespie would be an apt pick, instead of McGrath.

Sorry I just slapped them down and didnt really think about the order...

In that case, Gilchrist, definitely ahead of Flintoff...

Well yeah exactly. All good batsman can attack and defend. Nearly all of them play according to SITUATION. The one main exception is Gilly, who is a great bat who always attacks.

Most people are slipping up simply by putting in batsman who are centrally aggressive/defensive, but every now and again will do opposite. Only a few people stick out.

Attacking:

- Gilchrist

- Afridi (Is everyone here insane, this man HAS to be in the side  )

- Klusener

- Muralitheran (I'm probably wrong, but I have never seen him defend. He just walks out with a huge grin and inflates his eyes, then gives the ball a belt. :p )

Defensive:

- Richardson (Classic Test cricketer)

Well agreed Afridi attacks.. But you forget one important thing : The guy can't bat !! You gotta pick guys who can atleast contribute while attacking, not just mindless bat-waving. Hell why don't we put John Davison in the team ?? He will surely do better than Afridi and he is a somewhat better bowler too. Afridi has to be the worst batsman for test-cricket, which is shown by he cannot make the Pakistani side. Everyone selected do however make their respective sides...

OK im so sorry don't mind me. How stupid I am. For some reason I thought this thread was about (Wait for it) the most aggressive and defensive batsmen there are. And yes, that would most certainly include mindless bat waving.

But no, of course, what a fool I have been.

I'll ignore the sarcasm..

Most attacking and defensive batsman (who actually make their teams) Not one-time wonders like Afridi. Seriously, we are trying to pick a decent competitive XI not just a bunch of mindless sloggers.
