If we rested Jayasuriya as well then it would have gone into the realms of being absurd...
Not really.

Australia would start as unbackable favourites to beat that team 100 times out of 100. They simply did not have the bowlers to restrict Australia to anything like a total their batsmen were capable of posting.

Anyway, as Michael Holding said, "the only thing SL learnt from today's match was that a couple of their reserves werent up to it."

at least they know it now so they wont make the mistake of choosing them next time :p but anyways enough about it, whatever it was tactical or just resting it was all good.

Tomorrows game- GO ENGLAND everyone except the saffies should hope england wins.

Why? There are some amongst us who love to see the Pommies get smashed, not saying I'm one of them

Pretty poor decision by SL to rest Murali and Vaas. IMO they have by doing so handed the Psychological Initative to Aussies on a platter already... and the aussies will smash them if they should meet again, knowing they have a psychological over SL.

This is the World Cup. And its pretty poor cricket ,IMO to rest players like that , and make it a non event....:@

I kept up all night watching the rubbish. (having take the morning off to do so ):@

Besides a win would have given SL a Semifinal at St. Lucia where conditions are favourable. Now SL are set to play the Semi final at Sabina Park and they could still meet the Aussies there (even though they did not want to) if NZ beat the Aussies.

Either way Sabina Park will not be to the liking of Sri Lankan batsmen and against Australia they will struggle there, while NZ can also get the better with Bond / Oram/Franklin.

I am really suprised to hear experts and pundits say that resting Murali and Vass by Lankans is a move that can prove to be tacticaly brilliant when they face the Aussies in the finals, because they believe since the last time Aussies played Vass and Murali they have added some more variations!?

Now i want to know what makes these pundits believe that Sri lanka could beat NZ in the semi-finals, to reach the finals in the first place.

Sri Lanka would have to face NZ in Jamaica, where the pitches have assisted the faster-bowlers a lot more than the spinners, so that certainly doesn't work in favour of Lankans.

Dead matches in terms of progression to the semi finals. I don't see anything dead about a New Zealand vs Australia clash.
Yeah but we said that about SRL v AUS and that was utterly toilet and a waste of everyone's time.

I'm juicing out of my eyeballs for this next game coming up!

This World Cup has bored me. Too long. Too many matches. Too many matches not living up to expectations. So little hanging on the line in each match due to just how the whole thing has played out - it's been predictable. This match between SA and England should be a mamba! It has all I want - a lot of the line, two teams desperate for a win and the fallout for whoever loses will be immense.

I'm really looking forward to this game!

I can see the Sri Lanka pace attack out bowling the Kiwi pace attack tbh. The strength of the Kiwi pace attack so far is their ability to bowl on slower pitches. So really a faster pitch doesn't really mean they will play any better.

Anyways have KP or Smith said anything new about each other, or are they saving their best for today's game.

England really should play Plunkett today if they are serious about winning today.
