Tough round this

Cynical play from Higginbotham. Surprised he wasn't pulled up over that.
Yeah agreed, very cynical, but also something that is done by every team in the comp at some level - the tahs were doing it, the reds were doing it, a terrible way to get injured though - was about 20 metres away from mitchell when it happened...nearly lost my dinner tbh.

Two things:

1) he's got one of those faces that is just asking for a punch. Exhibit A:

2) During an Auckland Ranfurly Shield defence against North Otago, it was coming up to half time, and Auckland were ahead 47-3 or something similar. Either way, 100 points was always going to be on the cards. Anyhoo, Auckland were hot on attack, and instead of spinning it wide for another try, the show pony decided to snap a droppie from in front of the posts. Ball-hogging, arrogant little ****.
 This post is all superb. I'm not a Munro hater as he's now had to do the hard yards for Northland and I think he's matured with it, but Volty's post is a perfect reason to dislike a player and one I can certainly support [especially point #1]

The Highlanders could easily win the game against the Blues - not sure why everyone is tipping the Aucklanders. I am off to read the injury reports for the week.

Awful news about Kurtis Haiu. :(
Was so sad to hear about Haiu's bone tumour; hes been such an asset for Auckland and the Blues over the years, has a family and kids and I imagine they're devastated to hear the news.

Frustrating to watch that first half of the Highlanders vs Blues match, with neither side playing particularly well and neither coming close to scoring a try. Bit cruel to sinbin Hoeata just before halftime given a few of the Highlanders' nine penalties conceeded have been rather harshly awarded IMO and from what I understood of the decision the only reason for the yellow card had been the build-up of penalties.

Better second half though hardly a classic game. Ben Smith impressed me most, started well at 12 but he was brilliant when he moved back to fullback after 25 minutes or so of the match - I think he'll find it hard to make the ABs but his form's certainly making a case for it.

Blues clearly improved, but if they & the Reds get a bye to the semis I fancy the teams coming from behind. The Crusaders-Blues match in June looking like an early quarter-final though.

Porous defences in Bloemfontein. Eight tries before half time, four apiece. Cheetahs still nine up, which considering their last home game means this is still impossible to call.

Ripper's head must be exploding right now. The Reds blew a great opportunity to beat the Hurricanes, who fielded a side weakened by injury, particularly in the backline, and almost blew a 17 point half time lead. Cruden's penalty in the final minute the difference.
