Found Viv only having 5 shocking, easily the most surprising number here, but then realised most atgs were on his team anyway which kinda just shows he's probably a tad overrated in terms of his reputation of destroying every atg quick he came across (which weren't even that many).

I think it is a fair critique of Lara because it backs up the fact he struggles against quality after pace.

18 games against Donald and 2Ws, no ton.
I'd post Lara's entire numbers against those bowlers rather than focusing on the no ton part, averaging in the mid 30s is just as bad as having zero tons against them.

He'd have 9 if you give him his WSC runs, he does have stellar record against the three he got to face though.

Sorry but a ton is an important milestone. It isn't everything and overall output matters more but it does show a capacity to stay longer at the crease against attacks in which they are involved.

is this a subtle Sachin defense?

It also shows an ability to have a high impact in an inns (against quality bowling here) imo

The point stands regardless of Sachin and I have critiqued Lara with this before.

Lara was the master of masterpiece long form innings yet couldn't manage one ton against the faster pace greats of his generation. How is that not a fair critique?

Of all time or the more modern ones (say 1970 onwards)? Because before that, I've very little clue.
go with modern day if that's more comfortable for you, ignore Bradman obviously, I'd say

Viv Richards, Garfield Sobers, Sachin Tendulkar, Len Hutton, Steve Waugh

Brian Lara’s reputation and aura is built on playing a huge innings.

If he is not able to do it express fast bowlers, it is a huge toll on his legacy since he is known for his big daddy tons.
