The top 3 in this group definitely separate themselves from Sehwag. That top 3 is what I am confident as being the triforce of excellent opening performance in different ways. Gavaskar is the best though. I wonder if any opener will reach those heights going forward. Or maybe it really is becoming a cannon fodder batting spot which is growing less important over time?Gavaskar
Hayden
Hutton
Sehwag

Let me be clear, I don't have a moral qualm in not rating Boycott.Geoffrey is definitely better than Sehwag
Nah it was just a one time thing where England believed it would rain and Boycott thought it wouldn't rain, Boycott and Botham had an argument about rain during the match, at the end I think it didn't rain so...He actually has played lots of match winning knocks, was a very gutsy player, ready to take on Lillee/Hogg and the Windies quaret when he was aging and reaching his 40s.Let me be clear, I don't have a moral qualm in not rating Boycott.
I do take his teammates at their word when they say he had a selfish approach which was costing them, and they even actively ran him out, in what must be an unprecedented incident. If that's not grounds to be suspicious of an individual's run scoring record, I don't know what is.
Yeah.. He takes 3 days to score a 100.a fun fact would be, when Geoffrey Boycott scored a hundred, England never lost.
