Suggested change to end of season Draft????

OK guys at the start of the season i said that at the end of the season teams would keep 16 players and then draft the rest to make up to 20, but i am putting forward a suggestion to u all....
I am suggesting that instead of keeping 16 players that we knock it down to 10, and then draft in the other 10.... My reasons are below....

* Keeping 16 players out of 20 means that squads will rarely change.....
* It would also mean that there is no chance for a team to suddenly rise from bottom to top in 1 season.....
* Many sides only have around 20 players meaning only 4 players will go....
* Making it 10 players to be retained ensures that teams will at least have 1 new player in there starting squad each season...

This is a suggestion only at the moment and i am open to other suggestions, I know i have spoken to a couple of you before on this matter but would like to see all managers have a say on this matter and put forward your suggestions!!!!!

well maybe to even level it up again, maybe add international duties. so certain players are unavailable for int duties. maybe this is a thought

It will certainly weaken the good sides to keep your 10 best players. My Glamorgan side would certainly benefit. It will also give the sides a more international flavour as you'll be able to pick the unwanted Aussies, Indians etc. I would assume that the English county sides would not be restricted to one international or would there be a separate pool for state and international players.

I would be in favour of keeping 10 this time and then raising that number for future drafts once the quality seems to even up.

How will the draft occur. Do we submit a list of players that we want in a certain order and then we'll get whoever depending on who's available.

there would be no restrictions on amounts of players(o'seas), As for reducing it throughout the game as teams even up, i wouldn't do that as that makes people keep note of whos performing and whos playing well in the Academy sides...

As for how it works, firstly you will decide who you want to let go, those players will then be pooled with everyone else's players and the academy players, then the team that finishes last in Div 2 will be granted 1st pick working up to 1st in div 1, it will be run over 2 or 3 weeks where you will submit a list of around 60-80 players in order of preference, then going through the selections players will be drafted....

I think only retaining 10 is too radical, but would happily go with retaining 12 (which equates to a playing 11 + 12th man).

but retaining 12 graham doesnt let the sides get evenly seperated.with holding 10 i will at l;east have to let go 1 of my starting 11 so it evens it out for the bottom sides.

i like the retaining 10 etc. i think its a good idea.

I think we should retain 12 as 8 new players coming into a team is quite a big change.

here is some good rules for u


After the season, Australia will play a six test series against Australia A ( made up of players without ACB contracts ). The coach who wins the Pura Cup final will become the selector for Australia and the runner-up will select for Australia A. All coaches will vote to choose the 15 players for the A team. There will be 2 tests per week during the offseason.



During the offseason, all coaches are allowed to keep 8 players without ACB contracts ( if you have 4 Australian players from your state then you keep 12, etc. ). The remaining players will go into a draft pool. The team that came last will get to select first in the draft ( and so on ).



Teams will only be allowed to have 15 non-ACB players on their main squad. All remaining players will make up two Academy teams that will play one game every week against each other.



You can make minor adjustments to your ground conditions before each game. You can only increase or decrease any single level by 1 in any week. For example, if your ground was 5-7-2 then you could make it 4-7-2 ( but not 4-8-3 ). Changes must be received by Tuesday so that groundsmen can adjust the pitch.

I was saying that the orginal idea of blewy's was a good one, about having just the 10 players etc.

How about a 1st Division select vs 2nd Division select, each manager puts forward 3 players from their team of which the manager of the respective league winners has to take 2 of each 3, and they play a 3 match series with the squads of 16?


Oh, and for the draft, I think keeping only 10 is tricky, how about some form of contracting - you can offer 4 players 3 season contracts, 4 players 2 season contracts, and 4 players 1 season contracts, losing the rest. At the end of each season, the 4 whose contract ends are automatically released to the pool (but you can redraft them from the 2nd draft round onwards, along with 4 other players.

You therefore retain a 12 man squad each season and select an extra 8, offering them rolling contracts, although of course you will only be able to lose 4 of them at the end of the season.

May sound complicated GB, but if you want to discuss it with me, drop me an email - I feel it could work, and prevents players hoarding the best players!

That was in the style of the original plan, the only difference being instead of nominating 3 players each, you would all pick a squad of 16 and those with the most votes would be selected, That way it would be the strongest possible team....

It sounds interesting, but like you said tricky and could involve alot of work but i will email you and get a full idea and maybe we can work on it?????

I would be prepared to run the draft once the system is worked out and approved. It looks like fun but of course if you want it GB then it is yours.
