Must chase 317 down to get into the Cup QFs. Certainly have the firepower, but with a short batting lineup and very hot conditions cannot tolerate any more than a couple of failures. And one's down as I type...

Fell away at the end but AX–W's 262–8 is very pleasing. 2 teams in the QFs would be incredible: apart from a R16 run for AXI last season, neither team has previously taken it past the R128.

It looked all over: 200–4, with a century stand rollicking along, with a 40 skill Finisher still to come and on my part some awful death bowling. But their tail was even worse than my bowling, and Kurt Murdoch haxed out a maiden in the final over to secure an 11-run win.

AX–W's Cup run in its completeness:

R1: bot-bash
R2: 6K rating advantage, 10-wicket win
R3: 5K rating deficit, 2-wicket win
R4: 8K rating deficit, 1-wicket win
R5: 4K rating deficit, 10-run win
R6: 5K rating deficit, 11-run win
R7: ~8K rating deficit, ???

Next week AXI will be playing the Tonkers and AX–W the Legend Killers, so a SF appearance is not particularly likely. I only wish that draw was the other way round...

With the arrival of Rusty and speedy improval of Gangadharan and Katz, AX–W's bowling lineup has become very solid. In the match against PPs, we've got 8 bowlers and the side only feels one batter light too – and there's a decent second XI in the wings.

The effective squad size is 32, which has got be reduced and will be reduced shortly, but I'm not really going to let many bowlers go. Ward's now 31 and Hurst + Frost have mostly rendered him obsolete, so I guess he'll continue to see a reduction in games. Todd's nearly 30 but still dominates the BQ charts at home.

Ian Green's one who's been hard done by by the large squad: he's only played 1 competitive match since his aging out 6 weeks ago. No small part due to my inattentiveness, but it's probably time to let him go. Which feels weird because for the longest time he was in the first XI, but tough calls have to be made.
