AXI announce several long-term players are leaving the club. So some eulogies.
Alex Darnell, offie, was unlucky to find himself quickly forgotten as a genuine prospect, and thus stagnated at 35–36 skill for most of his career. But he has been effective as Dev filler, often hilariously handy when he bats, and a good backup option for the senior side too. Now that he's almost 22 it's time to let him go, but given he could still get up to 40 skill he might well have a long career left. 10th all time on the club wickets list.
Prabhjeet Ram, bowling all-rounder, seems to be valued by everyone but me. He played for years as one of the Velociraptors' leading bowlers, managed to appear in 4 ODIs for India whilst I had him, but was the least important cog of our bowling attack. At 32 skill with bat, and 41 with ball, he is a very good player but we've got a clogged bowling list. His strong batting that led him to a fr. 50o average almost better than Michael Winton's will certainly be missed. 16th all time on the club wickets list. After 4.5 months, he goes.
Shawn Dee is the club's leading runscorer, but has had a poor season, not helped by touch as an Influential. With Simmonds and Zahid now occupying the two spots for defensive batsmen, he must leave. He had a terrific partnership with Simmonds for a couple of SOD seasons to help with us being out of our level at division 1, and has been a very consistent scorer. One of the last four of the original squad – it's very sad to see him depart. A surprisingly decent T20 middle-order bat, and averages 46.37 in 50 over competitives. Gun.
And
Kurt Murdoch, the number 6 of endless knocks to remember.
This one was the club's greatest for ages. Despite leading on appearances for AXI, he can only count the one century: in a T20 bot bash over two years ago. Instead, it's valuable 30s and 60s. He averages 31 in fr. 50o – extremely good for a hitter. An excellent fielder permanently stationed at long on. But he's 26, and all good things must come to an end. Benjamin Butler has now supplanted him well and truly, despite Murdoch's ability to, simply, win games. Oh, and I'll mention Kurt's capacity for yeeting down chaos at 148kph in the final over. It works.
They'll get a farewell against AX-W, which starts soon. Murdoch will play three more friendlies so he can reach 800 games. And Rusty Frost will bask in the glory of somehow coming into sublime form despite touch to prevent being sold. 34 skill specialist bats for the win.
