Stumped!

I'm not happy with Branning and Chambers pushing along in this heat; they need to be more aggressive. Now Chambers is out.

Ah well, Alex Darnell's hacky batting was fun while it lasted. A cameo of 21 for him. Oakes can stick around, hope he does.

So, GG wrap up the win. AXI's tail wagged very nicely to lift us up from 132-8 to 201ao, but it wasn't enough to ward off GG's powerful batting with a second-rate bowling lineup. Peter Sutherland scored 83* (77), the legend.

Babar Ijaz played a nice hand in GG vs Moo!

Many pops for the AX teams as well. Some highlights were John Ward of AX-W reaching 35 skill, despite being a 26 year old whose coaching has half been on pace (I don't want mediums on my slow low pitch), and Michael Winton, formerly of Moooo, now of AXI, reaching the target I set for him when I bought him: 37 batting skill. Now he needs to lift his average!

haha wtf happened in that game
Just more on my perspective on this (AX-W's woes aside for a moment), AXI have won all competitive T20 + CWC games this season, but have only nabbed one bonus point out of six; we've just nipped in there.

So earlier that Wednesday, we managed to sneak away with a win in the competitive T20 vs Kalinga Knights, despite fielding a Cup-weakened side. The previous day, scrolling through the CWC match vs Schmaltzberg commentary file, I sighed, in knowledge that my good luck would come to an end. After all, we were 37-5. The partnership between Murdoch and Chambers lifted my hopes, but it was excruciatingly slow. Definitely wasn't like the previous encounter between the two sides.

Especially once the rest of AXI collapsed (there were five golden ducks in the innings!) to leave Chambers stranded on 42*, it was not looking good. 110, on a decent pitch, shouldn't win. But like with many T20 friendlies on Stumped, the 110 plays 110 game went down to the wire. But man, it didn't look that way. My good luck manifested itself in reducing Schmaltzberg to 37-7, 53-8, 77-9.

But then Armand Bernstein came into his own. 19 off 9 was needed, and he smashed the usually economical Chris Waters for three consecutive boundaries. 5 off 6 was required. Howell Brown, playing in one of his final games, had the ball for the last over. The number 11 scampered a single. Brown put everything he had into the next ball, but the batters got away with a couple. Then Howell bowled a long hop, which, inexplicably, soared high into the night sky. In one of the great redemption arcs, Chris Waters ran some miles to take an excellent catch.

What a game that was.

Cricket Web: All-Time Legend
After much frustration, deliberation but very little thought... After only half a season Adam Lofthouse was sold from TMOs today. While he made some important contributions in his short time at the Arboreal CG, he never felt quite the right fit within the TMO clubhouse and he was given options to explore employment else, which he eagerly took up.

While TMOs may consider a replacement in future it has been decided for the time been, that there is enough internal talent within the TMO ranks to cover for the loss of such an experienced bowler.

Additionally management would like to add that they have renewed their continued support and membership within the stumped community for another year.

This was a rather unfulfilling partnership in the end, for it left us 15 runs shy of a potentially crucial bonus point, and it itself was 6 runs shy of the first AX century 10th-wicket stand. Nevertheless, a couple of batting position stats:
  • Zac Chambers' 71 (54) was the largest score by an AXI player from #8 (Jacobus Kruger has done better for AX-W)
  • Chris Waters' 30* (50) was by far his highest score for the club, and also the highest score from #11 for AXI (Tye Ramsbottom made 36 for AX-W in the second-best 10th-wicket stand)
The partnership was 94 (91). From the first 46 partnership deliveries, 22 runs were scored. From the next 45 balls, 72 runs were scored. TBH, I'm not sure why they were pushing earlier with the run rate in the 11s, but hey - I'll take that effort any day.

A SOD vs FHK has just started. Eddie Oakes has been given a game.

I must admit, I'm still not fully convinced about Winton. His T20 top-order batting being good was a welcome, somewhat needed surprise

Unlucky for Kurt, to get run out after that very promising start. Winton, out for 34 (68), not so unlucky I feel. Solid stuff from the FHK bowlers.

A quarter of the way through, and we've kept them to under 3 an over. One wicket thus far, Oakes nabbing Qasim.
