Stumped!

ataraxia

International Coach
Looks a good game against SCC. Good to see Kurt Murdoch in the runs, and Juan Goliath's 4-16 (4) is the best figures yet for my team.

A very strong effort from SCC's opening batsmen, Trilby looks a good wicketkeeper/batsman, shame he's 29. I'm interested to see his skills.

Just wondering if multiple matches can be played by the same team at the same time?

Magrat Garlick

Rather Mad Witch
A good match between the Dynamos, though Morpork will be frustrated at the worm flattening out against some fairly middling death bowling from Owen/Ndlovu. Top notch bowling meant Schmaltzberg never got going though.

Quick tips for @Marcuss and @morgieb

1) retire three 30 year olds to make them into coaches, focus on developing youth

2) as in other games don't spend any cash early days. Eventually when you do open your wallet, invest in coaches and good youngsters

3) players with total potential between 35-40 (either all three batting skills added or bowling skills added) will do the job early on. You can eventually buy youngsters in that range for nex to nothing on the TM. In the long run you want 40-45 potential players, while 45+ guys are what will get you into Div 2 or higher

4) total potential isn't everything tho - see how the skills are allocated. High defence is good to see off the new ball, high attack for the end overs. High movement good for seamers with the new ball or spinners in general, high variation useful in the death or in T20s. Shot selection and accuracy always important. Once you start identifying different players for different roles, you can then find gaps in your squad and look to fill them.

5) never miss a youth pull, always have 9 guys in coaching. The in game training for playing matches is very useful for a new team, but it does get capped. When you send your coaches for courses to improve do it immediately after coaching updates, they will return and be available to coach the morning of the next Thursday.

6) experiment with different orders and on a variety of pitches in friendly games! You'll find things are generally really intuitive

7) there are an above average number of run-outs in this match engine, be warned. Fielding skills and experience are extremely valuable.

We've got 3 teams not currently in the CWC with Marcuss, ataraxia and SCC. I've messaged Jimmy in game but no response - anyone in touch with him off CW that can check if he's still interested?

Hope @honestbharani can find time to log in and stick around too, because if so we can have a fun little Stumped CWC Div 2 with the three newbies! Next next season play a bigger league with everyone in it.

I’m not mad at all, I understand that as a newbie winning will take some time. We’ve been in positions where we could have won a game or two. The players are lowly rated. It’ll take some time for them to develop the required skills to compete.

It is what I love though. Abysmal teams.
Trilby and Giridhar are my standout players. Might axe Toogood from the captaincy.

Right so I've got my second XIs lined up to play SCC and ataraxia tomorrow

Will also do a quick recap of stumped CWC round 1!

Also Ghaffar Khan going for 200K wtf. I suppose a 38 bat 19 pot keeper with Quick Runner and good stamina is useful, but 200K useful? At 37 pot his bowling shouldn't really be a factor.

Thanks! I'll try and make those adjustments later today.

@ataraxia's boys going well against FHK second XI atm. Keeper/captain/opener Bobby Shaffrey with 50 off 47, score currently 104/5 in 17.1

Ratings 42k for FHK vs 37K for ataraXIa. Pitch should be decent to bat on, I think we should chase this down.

A 1 wicket win on the penultimate ball! Crazy game. Michael Spavor with 47* off 31, Lester Shum 15 off 18 and young Tiffany Yuen hanging in there for a 28 run last-wicket partnership, hitting 5 off 9 including the winning run! She was dropped twice in the last two overs tho - ataraXIa will rue those missed chances.

Much easier win for ZCC 2nds vs Moo. 96 a/o vs 99/2 in 12.3. The gap between sides was bigger than the game earlier in the day too, 41K play 32K.

Have challenged @Marcuss with ZCC for and @morgieb with FHK for this Tuesday

CWC Round 1 wrap up!

Three predictable results, one upset, and an unexpected side topping the table after week 1!

ZCC crushed @jimmy101's Picasso Moon, as expected. One a wicket with good pace and moisture, and a little bit of wear, ZCC fielded a young XI (avg age 18.7) and elected to bat first after winning the toss. Tim Chester hit 47 off 48 opening the batting, Raun Shkorer 45 off 30 from number 3, and Shahbaz Furqan 31 off just 12 coming in at 4. The PMs used 10 bowlers for 2 overs each, with medium-pacer Adam Mardsen proving most effective, taking 3/17 in his 2 overs. In reply the ZCC pace attack bowled PM out for just 89 - skipper Arif Jalal (3/12) and Taufeeq Bashir (3/29) returning the best figures.

@Magrat Garlick's Dynamo Morpork emerged victorious over their affiliate in a more competitive affair. Schmaltzberg restricted the hosts to just 134/8, the bulk of those runs being scored by Shingirai Msomi (45 off 42), Daniel Rowan (30 off 27) and Simbarashe Mthabela (29 off 17). 17-year old tearaway Muchafara Ndlovu took 4/23 for Schmaltzberg, and was supported well by former Morpok seamer Christian Owen (3/22). However only 3 batters crossed double digits for Schmaltzberg, as they were bowled out for just 76 in reply. The wear and pace on the wicket made batting difficult, and the entire Morpok attack made good use of it. Left-arm wristpinner Nat Judge was particularly effective, taking 3/18 in his 4.

FHK's young-guns picked up a 6-wicket win over @morgieb's Inner Western Wombats on home turf. Despite being a well renowned dustbowl, it was the FHK's seamers who found the pace in the wicket to their liking - Michael Spavor (2/18), Ivan Lam (3/18) and Joshua Wong (3/10) combining to bowl the Wombats out for just 77. Four batters then scored between 13 and 18 in the chase. Derek Nicol took 3/24, but FHK got the runs in just 9 overs.

And finally, the best for last - @honestbharani's Honest Hunks upsetting @JOJOXI's Winton CC by 4 wickets! An incredible result given the pre-game ratings - WCC went in with a slightly weakened side, but still outrated the Hunks 46k to 28k! Batting first on the green hard deck that is WCCCG they were bowled out or 142 in 18.3 overs. It was less a case of good bowling, and more a case of bad batting - apart from skipper Yosuke Glenn (41 off 31) no one really got stuck in, and while the Hunks used 10 bowlers it was Mukund Milind (2/13), Nalin Mittur (2/5) and Karamdeep Rao (3/13) who did most of the damage. Much like in their win over Morpork last season, it was Nalin Mittur who starred with the bat in this chase, this time around hitting 42 off 26 balls after coming in at 64/4 in 10.3 overs! Manmohan Ghoshdashtidar and Champak Profulla both weighed in with 27s, and the fabulously named Chunky Kuttikkad hammered 23 off just 9 balls as the Hunks pulled off a win for the ages in the final over!

FHK top the group after Round 1, with ZCC a close 2nd. Morpork in 3rd after having successfully picked up a bonus point (#Shenanigans), while the Hunks surprisingly sitting above Winton in 4th!

Round two is this Saturday on 1st May - can't wait!
