All I am disagreeing is the context in which he has commented on that. If it was during a casual off the cuff chitchat am fine with it, but if it came in a press meet where he was representing the English cricket team, then he really has no business doing it.Golf is a big part in the lives of many sportsmen, especialy cricket tours. Players are always looking for where to play.
Now due to all their equipment, cricketers dont take their clubs with them on tour and have to rent clubs. This is a tongue in cheek comment about the worry the quality of rentals available for such an important part of the tour in a country that barely has golf on the map.
Perfectly legit and I cant believe the fuss.
A parallel would be while on an official tour representing my company I go to London and in an official meeting, I mention Prince Charles is gay. Now if I am in the company of a few friends, sitting in a pub and chatting over a few drinks, it might be pardonable, but the former is strictly not. Because whatever I am saying during that meeting, am speaking as a representative of my company. I don't think it is that difficult to grasp for a seasoned guy like Collingwood. It actually comes out as a whole lot of moaning before the tour has even commenced.
