Indeed, he is an important part of the balance and make of our team now.........but no way is he that pivotal that we lose all hope if he's not there.Nobody wants to lose a player the quality of Stokes, but I do think that his effect on the ashes is being overrated (whether we find out or not!).
I would be much more upset as an England supporter to lose a player like Moeen Ali and I`m pretty sure people would not be saying we`ve lossed the Ashes if Moeen was not on the tour...
I actually think Moeen is a more valuable player, just like Stokes can take a game away with the bat, but how many spinners does Eng have at the moment that can tie up the batsmen and take wickets? Stokes is an excellent talent that balances the team, but it is not like his bowling changes that much with a team that has so many allrounders. Moeen is not easily replaced, Stokes is.Re your comment on Mo.....do you say that because he is such a likeable cricketer and Stokes......well isn't. Or because you think he is more valuable to the side than Stokes?

Is Moeen more likely to take wickets and tie up batsmen than Stokes in Australia though? Swann's record here wasn't that great and he was a significantly better bowler. And Stokes is likely to better with the bat here. I don't buy that he's easily replaceable. England is playing three allrounders, but Woakes is playing as more or less a specialist bowler and Moeen will be less effective here. Even though they are playing that many allrounders there's still only five bowling options, all of which will be required down here (unless a miracle occurs and we get sporting pitches). If you replace Stokes with a bowler you remove much needed batting, and if you replace him with a batsmen you lose his also needed bowling. Yes the same goes for Moeen but probably not to the same extent in Australian conditions.I actually think Moeen is a more valuable player, just like Stokes can take a game away with the bat, but how many spinners does Eng have at the moment that can tie up the batsmen and take wickets? I'd keep the police close by if that's the case, possibly even Dogwatch.According to Broad Stokes's energy will be present in his absence, riling the troops on.
You not think they're just going to continually pepper him with the short stuff?? He might fall lucky with one or two hooks but on the bigger grounds he's surely going to hold out more often than not, or am I underestimating his ability to play the short ball ? I'm certain he's going to be working pretty hard on it before the series gets underway.Dont disagree with that but I reckon Mo will make runs this series.
In fact im up for an Avatar bet that he averages 45 or over if anyone wants it.......
