Actually I tend to notice Bracken leaning or falling away early on in his spell and I notice them bowling a lot of wides early in their spells as well.

In response to the first question about Steve Waugh... sure hes an excellent batsman and captain, one of the best for sure and he would probably do really well in the OD team, but the two reasons I see are
a) he would find it terribly difficult to keep up with the 1-day AND test schedule. Look at the wear and tear its putting on our team already!
b) sometime or another, selectors are going to have to give the young guys a fair go, or theyll be continuously playing in domestic cricket, waiting for the 38-year olds to finally cark it!

One match-winning performance doesn't make you a proven match-winner. I daresay almost every FC/Test/ODI Cricketer with a reasonably long career has put in a matchwinning display or three - even I've had a few at my level - with both bat and ball :P (sticking around..) - but that doesn't make a proven match winner!

I disagree.

I think alongside the lines of John Bucahannan, if iti s broke, then brake it. I see it is the method used for something not trying something new or moving forward.

You have to look at it on how you are winning, the type of opposition etc. and whether they are performing or not.

Because you have to think of the future... the young kids cant just jump from full time domestic to full time international.

Like Craig said, how is the team supposed to move forward when they are hanging on to something thats won for them before, and not letting the younger kids show them what they've got?

An upcoming batsman... I don't think a bowler should b captain, for reasons mostly which are obvoius..ie,when the pressure is on,he might bring himself on when he should bring on some1 better... He could b using that situation to show he can bowl (and hence save his spot in the team)

I am a very big steve waugh fan,but i have to say that i think he did this when he got dropped from the ODI team... He used his captaincy powers to bowl himself in test matches..

Khaled Mahmud,from bangaldesh is another,..brings himself on when he should really bring on his strike boweler

Waqar (another one of my favourites) did it in the world cup match against india... Akhtar went for bout 12 or 15 in the first over... Waqar immedieatly removed him and brought himself in.... Shattering akhtars morale,and giving the indians mroe confidence...however,i must say on waqar's behalf..he was more sensible with the captaincy then most... He rarely opened the bowling himself,knowing full well, that even if he did,he wouldn't b criticised...he did the team thing,and used akram and shoaib


So i think an upcoming batsman...or wicket keeper...I don't think campbell or haddin will make good captians

so batsmen...young batmsne that might come into the team soon

Steve Waugh should never have been dropped from the ODI side. It wasn't a matter of form, he was dropped caused he was too old. Age shouldn't be of concern, if you are performing, you deserve to be in the side.

I would like to think what would of happened to Steve Waugh if his side made the 2001/02 VB Series final?
I think now in 2003 he would still be in both Australian Teams & he would of passed 350 ODI's.

Though I have to while I'm here congratulate Ricky Ponting for the way he has captained the Australian ODI Team. Ponting has done a great job and he would almost certainly take over Steve Waugh as Test Captain when Waugh decides to retire.
