Tbf It's natural, he might've just thought Smudge would win based on him being a newer player and strike rate yada yada yada.
So you create a poll thinking "hah Player A is going to win this for sure because CW posters are poop" but when it doesn't pan out that way, you think "huh, CW posters are not poop after all? That can't be right!"

Sounds more like self-validation than anything else.

No I thought Smith would edge it but just wanted to see how close it would be.
