A tough one - but Murali in a strong team would really take him to another level.

(and 56 5-fers and 18 10-fers in 108 Tests! And a 6wkts/test SR!)

Ummm... it's the 1986-2006 World "Test" XI, not ODI XI :-O
Hmm I think I became a ****** for a second there. Lingering effects of yesterday's collapse perhaps. ;)

Why can't we just choose the best bowlers rather than just one spinner? Murali & Warne would both make a 86-06 XI.
Well that would mean you would have to pick two fast bowlers out of Walsh, Ambrose, McGrath, McDermott, Gillespie, Donald, Pollock, Ntini, Akram, Waqar, Shoaib which looking at the quality would be a bit unfair, so i think you got to pick either Warne or Murali.

So? Just choose the four best bowlers from 86-06.

Warne
Murali
McGrath
Ambrose

Case can be made for Akram.

Then you have the allrounder as well (Imran most likely) and that's the best attack of bowlers from 86-06.

The loser of Murali/Warne is easily the better bowler than everyone bar the 3 mentioned on that list IMO. Like its not even a contest.

Ummm, you forgot Malcom Marshall who IMO is the best bowler out of all of them (he could bat too)....

How much did he bowl after 86 though? Clearly he's one of the best ever, so if he has done enough post-86, shove him there as well and drop one.

My main point is don't choose 3 pace bowlers for the hell of it.

Malcolm Marshall played 41 tests during 1986-2006 and he took 188 wkts @ 19.78, SR 46.3, Econ 2.55 :D

Oh yeah, he also averaged 19+ with the bat....so I'd easily drop a spinner to accommodate him :)

Oh dear, Warne's going to win, what a farce!
Look at the figures people! Disregard any other issues!

we have alot of Englishman and Aussies in here.
Aussies you can understand will vote for Warne and Englishman well Warne does make their batsman look like Bangladesh team sometimes so they vote for him as well but forget how Murali made their team look like a amateur team recently in the test series :p

i voted for warney only cos I doubt murali's action. However I think that the eleven should have 2 spinners in the team, 2 quicks and a pace bowling all rounder. only problem is we don't have a good enough captain in the side to rotate the bowlers well.

I really have reservations about the Doosra. Murali would be the winner by a mile, except that damn doosra. So therefore its close, but Murali just edges out IMO.
