South African Domestic Season 2025/26

Cricket genes are in the family.

Tiaan Brits and Richard Seletswane confirmed on full-time contracts at the Lions from HP contracts. Differing profiles. One identified from underage cricket and another is 24 & gone through the club system over a number of seasons.

Thanks for your & clubcricket.co.za's info. This is my own squad spreadsheet. There are a few players who have disappeared, probably retired - Kok, Mahlokwana, Sigwili for Mpumalanga; Wes Marshall for Eastern Gauteng; Mohale & Tait for Northern Cape (the latter was signed, but never played a game, but he's had injuries); America, Christensen and Kotze for Garden Route. Also, Hlomla Hanabe was in the last Boland contract list I can find, but hasn't played a game in yonks. I think I've seen his name in their dodgy local club T20 competition. Not sure if he just lost his contract and wasn't re-signed (he hasn't done anything to warrant a contract).

There are also some biographical details that are missing. Specifically, Tiaan Brits's, but others too. The cricketarchive paywall (which I found a way to circumvent for a while but it seems they closed it; I'd happily a reasonable subscription fee, but theirs is mental) suggests he played HS in 2017, which if it was matric would suggest he's a 1999 model, which seems on the older side for an HPC (though not impossible).

Yusuf took 2 for 36 in the first but stepped it up in the second 4 for 26

pitch was a bit dodgy all match but it’s a cracking debut for the lad
On the back of 5th highest wicket taker in our first div 4-day cricket with 23 @ 21s, he's making himself difficult to ignore, even if he doesn't have the physical attributes that our selectors normally hone in on...

Players who could do with a move...

What about Evan Jones? Difficult to stand out as a batting all-rounder in a team with Mulder (when he's not with the Proteas) and Potgieter already there... You also feel Johan van Dyk and Tiaan van Vuuren could do more in a first-division side with FS relegated, but I'm sure they'll be desperate to hang onto them after (almost inevitably) losing Senokwane and Forrester...

George van Heerden staying in Div 2 with the Badgers. He is the big fish there now with Tiaan van Vuuren at Knights. Been selected for SA Emerging tour to Bangladesh next month.

It's scandalous that EP can't find a contract for him really... Beaufort, Vieira and Jacobs also from EP in their squad. Maybe he thinks he can bring GR to div 1. By my reckoning they are the youngest squad of the 15 so they could pull it off. With Boland and NC the retirement homes...

Three more in my MIA presumed retired pile - Mahlangu and Juan Landsberg both last contracted to NC in 23/24... And Thula Ngcobo, last contracted to East Gauteng 23/24.

Must admit, I don't follow the Div 2 players that much bar the better ones. Could just have lost their positions or stepped away from the game.

A few Div 2 retirements like Marco Marais and Kelly Smuts who played franchise cricket are the bigger ones.

Don't forget Boland had him as he was going to Stellenbosch University and Robbie P & Warriors called him back home. Maybe we have to give him credit for a plan. Another big run scoring season behind him & no one can no take a chance on him Div 1.

Also along with Daniel Smith one of our better younger leaders.
