South African Domestic Season 2015/16

TBF QDK is a bit more then just a keeper. He is good enough to make all the franchise teams just as batsman as his first class record would say.

That is why the sooner we get our young all-rounders ready for the step-up, I will be more than happy for QDK to bat 6 in the test team.

So the South African test team is in Disarray... The writing was on the wall a while ago, but a few individual performances have kept the boat afloat.

In my opinion the time is now, to take decisive steps to right the ship.

1) Proper opening batsman, Stephan Cook would be first choice
2) Proper wicket keeper, QDK just hit another century
3) Another Strike Bowler - Viljoen 16 wickets in last three first class innings and cranking it in at over 150, and the heir apparent in Rabada
4) Bowling allrounder in Morris/Parnell (when fit)

It is hard to fix the middle order while the top order is collapsing, duminy and faf on the chopping block - and what to do about Amla?

Other interesting facts
Tahir at his Franchise gets 1 wicket, the other spinner in the team Maharaj gets 5
Shamsi left arm chinaman bowler is doing some serious damage

Amla will regain his form, would also help if he didn't have to come in facing the new ball each and every time because the openers failed again.

As to the all rounder, the issue here is that none of morris, parnel or philander when fit are good enough to bat in the top 7. They are all good 8's as batsman but they aren't good enough for a top 7. So you are left with the choice either weaken the batting or play 4 bowlers.

As for the middle order duminy needs to be dropped and rilee rossouw deserves a chance at test level.

Simple answer. Yes Brock. Too many weak links now so easy wickets or easy runs. So tough to judge just how good some are.

I can only rely on the eye now & who I see with potential.

I think if Steyn is out then you bring in either Morris/Viljoen to the squad.

For Newlands :

Elgar
Cook
Amla
AB (c)
Rossouw
van Zyl or Bavuma
de Kock (wk)
Rabada
Abbott
Morkel
Piedt

12thy Morris/Viljoen

For the Limited overs I would really start to look to the future as we are 1 year in to a 4 year cycle already. Seeing that it is in England. 1 spinner will do but we will need some seamer all-rounders & no point in going to Albie's, Wiese's , Parnell's etc Bang average. Albie can captain our T20 WC squad though.

Tahir is 36 & by the time the next world cup comes round he will be 39/40. I certainly think it may be time to move on from him. We need a freshness in our cricket. He wasn't particularly great in India.

I would let Amla, AB, Morkel & Steyn rest , especially for that triangular in the West Indies. We may struggle in the beginning but we need to expose these players and let them develop on international stage like Kallis, Gibbs, Boucher, Ntini etc The current England test team , a lot of them cut their teeth at ODI level first.

So you go :

Hendricks
de Kock
Faf
Rossouw
Miller
Behardien
Duminy (but needs to be bowling well)
Savage
Phehlukwayo
Morris
Rabada
Abbott
Viljoen
Shamsi

I would rather keep Theunis de Bruyn playing domestic cricket at this stage.

Hopefully in the current u19 set-up we can get a few more through.

In an ideal world if we can produce a few more highly talented cricketers then I wouldn't include Faf and Behardien but at this stage we have to and they are in good form in this version. 3 years is a long time though & I have my doubts about both. I think Miller adds more than just value with the bat in the lower order, I think he is one of our best grounds fieldsman and certainly in hitting the stumps is our best and is good in the circle and the deep.

You take someone like Aiden Markram had a fantastic u19 WC but still can't play franchise cricket at 21. Probably something isn't right there.

I completely agree with that, my point is you cant go in with 4 bowlers who cannot bat to save Geoffrey Boycott's Grandma...

Yikes.

Cape Town - According to reports, the “intermediary” in the ongoing Ram Slam T20 match-fixing case is a former Proteas player.

In mid-December 2015, Cricket South Africa (CSA) confirmed that its Anti-Corruption and Security Unit had charged a perpetrator - operating as an intermediary - under its Anti-Corruption Code for contriving to "fix, or otherwise improperly influence aspects of last year's tournament".

In addition, the "intermediary" was also charged with failing or refusing to co-operate with the investigation.

The tournament, which ran between November 1 and December 12, 2015, was won by the Titans who beat the Dolphins by seven wickets in a one-sided final at SuperSport Park in Centurion.

CSA has remained tight-lipped over the identity of the individual to date, but according to respected cricket writer and commentator Neil Manthorp, the ringleader is a former national player - who is almost certain to face prison time for his actions.

In addition, a legal case is being prepared against a number of domestic players for corruption during this season's tournament. Other players are expected to be charged with the lesser crime of "failure to report" suspicious or illegal activity.

Sadly, the revelations will no doubt reopen the wounds of Hansie-gate in 2000 when former Proteas skipper Hansie Cronje was convicted of dealing with illegal bookmakers.

Cronje, who was banned from cricket for life due to his role in the match-fixing scandal, died in a plane crash on June 1, 2002.

While the International Cricket Council (ICC) has gone to great lengths to rid the game of unscrupulous individuals, it's clear those willing to tarnish the gentleman's game, still exist within the sport.

The world's eyes will be firmly glued on CSA to see how the governing organisation in South Africa deal with the latest blight on the sport.

Ban for live. No mercy, don't want cheaters involved our game. Have enough with amir around international cricket already...

Also I hate it when reporters are unwilling to spit out who it is...

There are such things as libel and defamation laws - they probably have to wait until he has been officially charged with something or until CSA says something.

Its not libel or defamation if you are right about who it is, only a problem if you are wrong. Article is poor without full information in my book.

Perhaps Manthorp doesn't have all the facts yet and perhaps he doesn't even know who the former player is.

Hope its not serious. Van zyl is IMHO a very talented player. He can finds the gaps with uncanny precision and is a gifted timer of the ball. He is a no 5 - 6 batsmen. Never was an opening batsman.
