With all due respect to the captain, Goff`s batting is not in the same league as Ul-Haqs. Goff`s batting is not proven at Test Level, or anywhere near it compared to Inzy.

Well, stat-wise, as captain, Inzamam has only scored 923 @ 41.15 compared to 6415 runs @ 50.11 when he was not captain.

With captaincy comes extreme responsiblity and a completely new dimension to the game, which takes some from ones batting. Or, at least, that's what it appears to imply.

Ricky Ponting: As captain (938 @ 52.11) not as captain (5821 @ 55.97).
Michael Vaughan: As captain (1474 @ 35.95) not as captain (2549 @ 50.98)


So there's definitely a negative impact on batting as captain (From these 3 as examples). Not as prominent in Ponting, But an 8.96 run difference for Inzy and an incredible 15.03 run different for Vaughan. I'm not sure about Blewy's test record not as captain though, but it could be hindering his batting (if ITC takes that into account).

When he's in the live sim, he calls the shots, yeah. Think he can send in bowling orders and stuff if he wants to and has the time, plus he is a member of the selectors' panel.

Butler as a batsman

Verghese as an all rounder

Hoy is the option i would go for there, wonderful bowler but also bats well defensivly - scored over 500 runs in the dev league at a Sr under 25.

Camps is similar to Hoy

the last 2 dont really weaken the bowling that much and still strengthen the batting

the first 2 are more batting options

I'd say based on last season Camps is a batting option.

The thing about Inzamam is that he's hardly bee shuffled through positions 2-7 in the batting order. We set out to let Goff play the series at 3 and I intend to try my utmost to allow him to finish it that way.

I see him as like a Steve Waugh....kind of stodgy, gritty kind of batsman, quite ugly. His mind games would be similar too, up with sledging and not willing to back down from a verbal contest obout point of view or whatnot. And his bowling would be like the young Steve Waugh too, just stump to stump, low trajectory tight stuff.
