Fantastic player, will be missed.Vernon Philander retiring from all forms of international cricket after the England test series. Basically Test cricket for him.
Great FC and test career. Newlands test debut v Australia and rarely looked back. Probably lacked versatility of others to be great but still had the discipline to contribute by rarely leaking runs.
Quite possibly. Kolpak is still an option because Brexit has happened yet, so maybe he's getting in while he still has a chance.Kolpak? Wouldn't be surprised if he's already got something lined up with one of the english counties.

Sadly , most likely.Quite possibly. Kolpak is still an option because Brexit has happened yet, so maybe he's getting in while he still has a chance.
Even though we all knew that it was coming any any day now, it's a still a big blow for South Africa as it leaves us with a very inexperienced bowling attack. Rabada's played 40, but the only others with test experience are Ngidi, Nortje, and Mulder, who don't have 10 between them. I believe the talent's still there, but Boucher and his crew have their work cut for them.
Although it's very possible that he would have bowed out after the England series anyway, and Kolpak still being an option is just a bonus.Sadly , most likely.
Definitely. If there was any doubt the urgency probably pushed him too.Although it's very possible that he would have bowed out after the England series anyway, and Kolpak still being an option is just a bonus.
Isn't the quota meant to balance out over a period of time instead of fixed number of quota players every game as the article suggests?
That is what I mean by typical English press. Jumping on something trying to heighten problems and they don''t have the correct details.Isn't the quota meant to balance out over a period of time instead of fixed number of quota players every game as the article suggests?
It is, and they actually haven't met the quota for the past two seasons anyway (with no apparent consequences), so it's a bit of a non-starter.Isn't the quota meant to balance out over a period of time instead of fixed number of quota players every game as the article suggests?
That WP side looked stacked. 9 out of 11 internationals (though Johnson only played for Zimbabwe, I think he was good enough at his best to crack the South African ODI team at least) and Friend had a long and prosperous FC career. And that was without Smith, Gibbs and Kallis for good measure....Still remember watching the Super Sport Series Final where he made his FC debut at 18 years of age - https://www.espncricinfo.com/series...kwazulu-natal-final-supersport-series-2003-04
10 2-18 figures in the 1st innings just typified him.
