South Africa team selection

Should mention, I would have liked more consideration for Maharaj as well.
I'd agree with that. I understand why they've being focusing on Shamsi, and to fair he hasn't had an extended run in the team because of Tahir, but he's yet to really deliver at international level, so I'm not convinced that he's the best long term option to replace Tahir as the ODI spinner.

I don't care what Morris brings to the table with the bat, him replacing Dale on Thursday is basically turning our backs on the chosen strategy. And I do acknowledge that he can be really good on his day, but we said the same thing about Parnell. But at least Parnell was pretty damn good at the start of his career in ODIs, Morris has always been hit and miss.

I really do think a slow left-armer would have been handy for us in this tournament. Fancy one against Root.

Agree on the Shamsi situation. They have laid all their eggs in one basket. Hoping he feeds off Tahir and he needs a world cup experience as at this stage they clearly believe he will take over from Imran but when he gets the run of games and responsibility we will find out if he is the answer or not.

Steyn out of the opener is so very bad. And the bad case of playing Morris as third seamer has occurred.

Anyone been wathcing the Minimal Margins at 8PM every night going through each world cup and talking to the players. Done 1992 and 1996. Wow brought a tear to the eye seeing some of the "ou-toppies" especially the praise for Peter Kirsten.

Yeah, on and off. Some of it hurts to much. Watching Kirsten and Donald in particular talk about the '99 WC was heart wrenching. I always forget there was actually 2 run outs for the last 2 wickets.

Just watched 1999. Such heartbreak. What a tournament and what a SA team.

That Semi-Final has to be the best ODI of all time. No doubts about it. The ebbs-and-flows of that game. Unbelievable for a 213 v 213 game. After that bowling performance (Polly 5 & AD 4) you think back to Warne's dismissal of Gibbs (you could make claims it was as good as the Gatting ball) and Hansie given out first ball caught slip when it clearly hit the boot and he was someone who knew how to get under Warne's skin when he batted.

The game before. Still also believe Hersch took that catch on replays. What made it look bad was him trying to catch it again. Think it was Lance who said, if didn't do that and came to celebrate it probably would have stood.

His bowling looks frankly village level, absolutely nowhere near international calibre. He is just as slow if not even slower than Pretorius. Somewhat of a passenger in the field too. His lower order hitting I do rate though
You can bowl a heavy ball at 125. Whippy action with that sort of build will not be easy to get away, especially in the T20 format.

Can't agree at all, he will never threaten anyone for pace.

As for Parnell, he was much maligned for his inconsistency, often for good reason. But his international record is far superior to that of Morris, it may surprise you but it is completely true

Heavy ball =/= to pace.... Big Mac and Klusener used to bowl a heavy ball. He just occasionally surprises the batsmen.

That is more a case of how bad Morris has been, than any good reflection on Parnell. Neither haven made use of their full abilities.

I would love an Andrew Hall or Johan van der Wath over Morris and Pretorius.

When you think about it, it has been Albie Morkel, Ryan McLaren & Wayne Parnell before Morris/Pretorius. We just been lacking in producing quality lower order seamer all-rounders for a while.

Thinking about the lineup for tomorrow:
1. Amla
2. QDK
3. Faf
4. Rassie
5. JP
6. Miller
7. Lucky
8. Pretorious
9. Rabada
10. Tahir
11. Ngidi

Is what I expect them to go with. I'd like Miller at 5 though. Think JP is more rounded and Miller needs more time to get in. Yes, I've thought about it and I think they will go with Lucky AND Pretorious. Really not a bad team, but glaring weaknesses if you ask me.

Man I want Markram in there. Just don't know where since Amla is going to start and they can't drop Rassie. They have no reason too.
