South Africa Domestic season 2010-11

According to van Zyl, Botha will probably never get another test again while Smith wasn't overly impressed with Harro. Tail order for Tahir against the Indians but you can't argue with what he is doing domestically. Rather hope he will get into the ODI side before the test team. South Africa need him for the WC.

Good striker and handy seamer but hasn't had much of a chance with the Titans.
Awesome hitter of a ball but the bowling isn’t even franchise level. Hard for him to get a gig for the Titans with Albie and uber slogger VDM around.

Questions need to be asked how the Lions lost the SF against the Titans but Faf du Plessis proving to be an absolute star one day performer once again. Faf has scored more one day hundreds in this year’s MTN then he has in FC cricket for 3 years. Top limited overs cricketer when you factor in the bowling and being one of the world's best fielders.

What's the story of Stiaan van Zyl? Didn't have a great time of it with Boland but has since bossed it in Franchise cricket with the Cobras.
Obviously in the selectors minds somewhere as he just went on 2 A tours, still quite young.
Anybody see a potential Test career ahead for him?

Not in the immediate future. Possible problem positions in the test side at the moment are with Virus and Prince. van Zyl isn’t an opener or lower middle order batsman. Gonna be hard for van Zyl, so many other lefties knocking around who are doing well (Elgar, Rudolph, Rossouw, Ingram, Vandiar, Miller).

Yeah, recognise a few names there as future Test players. Definitely have some talent coming through.
Don't Ingram and Miller have really, really bad FC records to date though? They must be behind van Zyl in terms of Test consideration.

You're right. He's ahead of the likes of Miller and Ingram but behind Duminy, Rudolph, Elgar and Russow.

Not sure and it doesn’t always work like that. VB van Jaarsveld would have played the 3rd test in Sydney in 2009 simply on the back of limited overs form and doing the business internationally like Ingram and Miller are doing, probably carries more weight with the selectors. van Zyl is scoring runs but not on the right stage or is clocking the big numbers to get noticed.

Yeah, I saw he failed on some A tours but aren't Ingram and Miller's records really, really poor. If they were below average you could make a case for it but they've been rather quite bad from what I remember.
Suppose its like England picking Morgan, though I disagreed with that too.

It would be. Though in fairness to Miller, he has no responsibility when he bats domestically in FC cricket, bats low in a side which has failed to click in the batting for a number of years. Needs to bat top five. Something about him though, very exciting talent.

Yeah, have been really impressed by the pair of them in ODIs and considering Miller's age there is a lot of scope for improvement. But how a guy who averages sub 28 in Franchise cricket can be considered ahead of one who averages a tick over 50 is stretching it a touch.
Long careers ahead for both of them though.
