Softest cricketer (smallest heart)

number11

State Vice-Captain
Yes. Rose to the biggest challenges.

Top of game during WSC. Top of game against WI. Top of game in ODI knockouts.
No one who watched Imran Khan would ever think he was of small heart. People are showing their biases, which is rather sad.

TBH I do not associate great tenacity with many modern era Pakistani cricketers, but some in the past had it. Imran, Miandad, Majid Khan definitely had it. More recently Moin Khan was a fighter. Back to Immy though - top draw talent, top draw mindset.

Agree with whoever mentioned Caddick, who also belongs in the chippiest cricketer thread.
I thought Harmison was pretty soft, especially away from home.
Years ago, I never had much confidence in Keith Fletcher when the going was tough, especially if the bowling was more than slow-medium pace.

Pretty accurate.

They were also fortune to bowl alongside big hearted guys like Gough and Flintoff and captained by Nasser and Vaughn. Imagine how badly they would have folded without those types of guys propping them up.

Supremely talented and blessed bowlers though.

Pakistan under Imran was a tough side. Otherwise they were very soft.
imran destroyed Pakistan cricket. He’s the main reason for their decline. A great cricketer himself but created an excessively arrogant, unthinking, unquestioning culture that has had 30+ years of downslide. Imran is the Zia ul Haq of Pakistani cricket. Literally the apogee of Pakistan was 1991 (remember going there in the early 90s and it was on top of the world), but the reasons for the success were the same reasons for the decline

Eh, I think there's factors far beyond Imran that contribute to Pakistan cricket's travails.

Lol what you are critiquing were features even before Imran joined.

Bottom line is results improved dramatically under his captaincy, he built a worldclass team that kept Pakistan a top tier side for another decade and he founded an entire pace tradition that has lasted somewhat till today.

Wasim Akram for being too chicken to face India in 1996 QF. Apparently at his prime and just sat out instead of facing Sachin.

Shoaib Akhtar for squealing to his skipper to take him out of the attack in 2003 WC against India. Consistently bottled it everytime a batsman took him on.

One thing about Caddick was that he wasn't injured that often compared to other NZ bowlers of that era (Cairns, Nash, Doull, O'Connor, Allott etc.), so probably would've played quite a few tests. I wonder how he would've gone if he hadn't moved to England.

Probably have done better as he'd be under less scrutiny and pressure. English selection decisions messed up a lot of players mentally in that era too.
