SKY New Zealand -not showing non NZ Preliminary games

As an outsider, I'd just like to say I think they are wrong. If they were a terrestial station like Channel 9 I'd understand because they are ratings driven and some of the games would not rate well even in prime time. But a specialist pay station has a responsibility to its subscribers and I can't believe everybody in NZ is a NZ supporter. And as they are played overnight in NZ they won't clash with rugby either. And to think their British namesakes are showing all games (when two clash you press the red button and pick the match you want). I take it Rupert Murdoch doesn't own NZ Sky?
He owns 40% of it, according to wiki.

Its really pathetic stuff from SKY to not show preliminary games of the WC not including NZ, as it is the biggest tournament in the game of cricket so the cricket fans deserve to watch each and every game of it.

To be honest I don't expect Sky to show the warm-up games live, highlights of the New Zealand matches would be good but not ultimately necessary. I think their coverage is adequate, I mean how many of us are going to be watching minnows play? The coverage shows every live game between the top eight teams and New Zealand's matches against Canada and Kenya, sufficient in my opinion.

Sufficient if you are a NZ fan. Sky takes subscription from a large number of English expatriates and residents in NZ, Aussies in NZ, a very large number of South african expats, A huge number of Indian fans living in NZ + Pakistan & Sri Lankan fans. Its a bit poor on the part of Sky to deliberately deny these fans coverage of their team's games even if against minnows. England, Australia show all games. Even in Asia (India/SL/Pakistan) all games are shown. They don't deny the Kiwis living there from watching NZ play the minnows.

I think when it comes to World Cup , all games warrant TV coverage even if against minnows. This is why Sky's attitude is poor.

I wonder how the Kiwis in England or Australia would feel, if these countries did not show NZ games v minnows.

There would probably be a few people (tourists, or immigrants) from the likes of Scotland and Canada that would take an interest in their team when the WC starts due to the media coverage it will get. Even if it's only a handful, I'm sure that it would be more than the number of people staying up to watch the tenth replay of Re:Union or whatever.

Poor form from Sky regardless.

I'd get over it pretty quickly, tbh. I wouldn't move to a new country and expect my nation's games live on TV.

I can not disagree with any of the facts stated regarding overseas immigrants or tourists in New Zealand - agreed that being a New Zealander, I feel more than satisfied. However we have had little coverage of overseas cricket in the past and I feel little need to provide extra live matches at obscure times that are likely to have very little followers - remember there are highlights for every single match so they have provided the opportunity for people of other countries to see at least an hour or so of every match their country plays.

I wonder why Sky shows Soccer World Cup with live coverage of all games given the very low ranking of NZ in International soccer and the very poor following of Soccer , given the severe hammering the knights get week in week out in the Hyundai league from the Aussies, (and their predecessors the Kings):) . How does that get Justified ? or for that matter the High coverage live Golf gets at ungodly hours of the night from the United States and Britain, given Campbell hardly ever competes in most or fails to make the cut quite often.:)

Thats easy for you to say, I guess given more kiwis live in Australia, England and USA combined than in NZ (in countries where coverage for Cricket is assured !!)

I guess it is based on demand? Fair points though I don't blame them.

Not all too surprised with this news tbh. Sky's cricket coverage of cricket is pretty poor compared to other countries.

Hopefully, one day, there'll be a cricket channel. There's been a rugby channel for a while now. One can dream, right?

I'd be surprised if they'd even consider for a second not showing every single game of the Rugby World Cup live.

People will have already paid a subscription fee and some will no doubt join Sky just for the World Cup. Also I'm pretty sure Sky pay a fee for broadcast rights to the whole tournament, rather than on a game-by-game basis. Besides, is anyone going to stay up to watch whatever other dreck they put on in place of the cricket?

who actually has the RWC rights this year ??

TV1 has had it since as long as i remember...
