I reckon Kapil was probably the better player, but Worrell's stature as a cricketer beyond simply achievements with bat and ball make this a hard one for me to call. Sir Frank may well be the single most respected man in the game's history.

Worrell in my opinion.

4 games before retirement, and 15 years into his career, Worrell was a 53 averaging Batsman thus above Kapil on primary by a good margin, and I personally think his bowling and captaincy shortens the gap on secondary by enough for Worrell to take this.

Though Worrell had an ATG English tour, his Home pitches were something really flat. Also, his average dropped 4 runs in 4 matches!!!!???? Overall think it's close enough to go either way.

True, but in context he was pretty good in Australia, was amazing in England until his last 4 matches, also played a decent game in a low scoring New Zealand game, very dominant and prolific in the unofficial tests played in Asia and so forth, his away record is actually the best of the three Ws and before the last 4 games his away average was 51, clearly fantastic, even without the unofficial tests being counted.

Plus, his away bowling record gets a boost, 48 @ 29.08.

also Yeah, lol, his last 7 innings read – 0, 33, 1, 0, 25, 0, 9. This was Freddie's immortal series, he played well in the first test but was clearly past it for the rest.

Damn Worrell almost retired averaging close to the other 2 Ws..... Also really shows how a few bad games can **** up the stats
extremely true for old players who don't have that long a sample size but have long careers anyway (IE, Worrell has 50 tests, but a 15 year long career).

Very big fan of Worrell. World class batsman, serviceable bowler, arguably the most culturally significant cricketer of all time. Would make my top 50 players of all time.

Perhaps a rare occasion where ESPN’s cricketers of the century does deserve a mention. Worrell was indeed one of the top players voted.

A great man and a great cricketer.

I only really do rankings based on actual cricket capability, but Worrell’s influence on the game cannot be understated.

I would say no, he wasn’t a greater cricketer purely on the field than Kapil though. But thats just me.

Ok, so I did some research through and found that Worrell played 5 tests against India with Commonwealth XI in 1949-50, 5 tests in 1950-51 and 2 tests in 1953-54, they're called "unofficial" tests.

1949-50 series – 684 runs @ 97.71, 3 fifties, 2 hundreds in 9 innings. Notable performance being a 223 made against Ghulam Ahmed and Vinoo Mankad after 2 early wickets.

1950-51 series – 445 runs @ 63.57, 5 fifties, 1 hundred in 8 innings.

1953-54 series –102 runs @ 34.00, 1 fifty in 3 innings. Went back early, dunno why.

all in all, quite the excellent record in India, 1,231 runs @ 72.41 with 9 fifties and 3 hundreds in 20 innings, he also took 33 wickets @ 31.5, and bowled 40+ overs and 50+ overs at times, very impressive record.

and Yes, all Indian lineups were front choice, as well as India won the serieses in the first two.
