Must've been an experience, bowling alongside the greatest seamer of the modern era.
To tell the full story (its not like we were good friends or anything), before people think I am better than what I am.

I used to and still do Test Match duty (net bowling with the players before the games started.) Last one I did was Eng v SA at Centurian last year (interesting story about that but save that for another day).

Anyway,in the early 90's when I was a young gun my 1st one was WI vs Eng.

Nervous on the sideline Lance Gibbs threw me the ball and told me to get in there.

Great 1st time experience bowling against big names along side Ambrose, Marshall etc.

That 1st time watching Marshall swing the ball both ways, at pace with such ease was amazing.

I netted with the England guys and the rest of WI squad but Marshall was light years ahead of anyone else.

My Dad's played with Bishen Bedi.
Doesn't make him more than a good club-player.
I wasn't - intentionally - trying to say "wow, you must be good!" :)

Mcnamara>Vettori ive been told
Where'd you hear that? Wouldn't have been McNamara because according to him, he's never played international cricket of any sort and just sort-of disappears for weeks at a time. The man sure does play a lot of 'school tours' for a guy just starting Uni.

At the First-Class domestic level, maybe, but nah, I was meaning greatest bowler at the Test level.

Asim Kamal = Test specialist
Michael Bevan = ODI specialist
Interesting comparison...
Mind, there's a similarity in that they're both stupidly hard-done-by, I suppose...
That said, Asim Kamal's domestic form has been woeful of late. And if you can't succeed in the Pakistani domestic circuit, you've got problems.

If you will read the first post in this thread I have actually talked about players that look like others when playing, I am not comparing their ability in any way. How can you think that Alaister Cook's abillity can be compared to an accomplished batsman such as Stephen Fleming.
to be honest i dont think wasim and irfan's bowling actions are anythin alike other than the fact that they bowl with the same arm. and there are very few similarities with ntini and marshall, after the run up.

You seriously think so?
I've not commented on Panesar's use of drift because the only time I've seen him before is in a couple of u19 games.
But I'd say his and Vettori's actions are near identical.
I dont think so, Panesar has a much more rounded action. nonetheless i hardly think panesar is anything special, and its quite insane how hyped up he is already, despite being mediocre in both tests irrespective of the wickets.

They're pretty similar in their techniques & Bevan may be a ODI specialist but Asim Kamal has the capability to perform well in both forms of the game.

Indeed? :(
That's a crying shame.
I really thought if he'd been given a fair crack he could've become a good Test batsman, but if he's not scoring runs domestically will he get another go?

I'd be interested to see the two of them side-by-side.

Like I say - I think a lot of that comes from being a Sikh - there's an unsaid stereotype that Sikhs have to make better spinners than anyone else. Obviously some of it comes simply from being young - people massively overrated the deeds of Dawson and Batty at the time they were still not yet proven utter rubbish.
I don't think Panesar's anything special either, but I do think he'll probably be a pretty good fingerspinner - ie effective when the pitches suit him (yes, I know he hasn't - so far - been at Mohali).

Maybe so but he only averages 36 in List-A-ODers (or did last I saw).
I've always thought it's a bit simplistic to call Bevan a one-day specialist, given that he does average nearly 60 in First-Class cricket. He didn't take his Test chances, but had he played in another era he'd surely have got far more.

Mick Lewis - A paralyzed flea
Where on Earth anyone got the idea to pick him from ODIs is beyond me.
I certainly doubt we'll see him again after 10-113-0. :)
Poor guy.

(Yes, this is based on Peeves-Fat Lady in Book 3)
