Silentstriker playing cricket?

The Wheel is Forever
Well, after eleven years (I am 22 now), I will play cricket once more. Or at least, try to. I just found out my university has a cricket team (WTF, why did I not know that before?) and I'll be going to the first practice in a week or two.

So, I fully intend to make a total *** out of myself. I haven't bowled a delivery or held a bat in over a decade (since I was 11 years old), so I fully expect to be embarrased (but thats OK).

My current plan is to go in and bowl like Malcom Marshall, bat like Tendulkar and field like Jonty. Anyone care to make any additions to my plan?

In all seriousness, I'm totally behind you and hope you make the team. I've been in the same situation since I came here to the US. I haven't played cricket since 1997 and don't seem to have chance in hell to play again, until maybe if I get lucky and have a cricket team at whichever university I end up at.

There is nothing like playing cricket so go for it and even keep like Healy apart from the great batting, bowling and fielding.

Out of curiosity, which were you, batsman or bowler? I played juniors mostly and flirted with a comeback when I was around 27, but I had a personal crisis that kinda put paid to it all before any match play. However, in training, I found batting came a lot more naturally than bowling. My first few deliveries must have bounced about three times on the way down.

Of course, the fielding drills were the worst...

So you were a bowler before?

I sometimes have my sister throw the cricket ball at me. Batting does seem a lot easier now.

Well, if being anything at age 11 matters, I was a bowler. An Indian fast bowler, the next Wasim Akram (and I wasn't overrated either  ).

Anyway, I don't expect to be bowling very fast right now. So I'll probably try my hand at spin and being a batsman.

Batsman, but a frustrated bowler. Right-handed bat, left arm medium pacers and (occasionally) slow orthodox. Always preferred to bowl, but my bowling was never rated that highly. :)

Vice versa for me. I was a pretty decent bowler (RMF), but the worst bat you'll ever see. It was quite frustrating really, as I couldn't even hit a boundary with an edge. Only way I could score was to defend the ball towards the death (which I was surprisingly good at) and then running like hell.

You could always pick up the copy of Masterclass and get few tips on batting and bowling.. just so you know how to hold the bat :p

I'm actually quite decent at it now, as I've closely watched the masters like Murali and Asif.

Yea as much as I've argued with you, I wish you all the best SS.

Me and my friends just started a team too this year at my high school! It's been real fun so far.

Man, unlike the Indian team I fully intend to dive on rocks and break my skull. Of course, the ball will just bounce on top of my cracked open skull and go to the boundy anyway.

Its at Drexel.
