I could switch to a batsman for the good of the competition if that's allowed.
Should be fine for now Himannv, will let you know if there are any radical changes but I think the current balance will turn out pretty decent.

Sign-up remains open; however, as all CW teams are currently filled, new players will be placed on a waiting list pending a position becoming available.

Question is a players ability completely related to their registration. Or is their some random component where two batsman who rated themselves as being 100 could have different abilities.

I've assumed the latter. Whilst you'd expect a batsmen with a rating of 100 to be the best batsmen, there's a chance that someone with a 90 rating could end up better in the long run due to form etc etc

(There is every chance I'm terribly mistaken though :p)

Their "inherent ability" as entered in the database is the same. However, two batsmen rated 100 will end up developing significantly different statistics in the sim. Think of it as similar to "Potential Ability" in Football Manager, where a player might have a PA of 200 but only ever accomplish a Current Ability of 150. The optimisation of an individual player's potential is mainly dependant upon the characteristics given to him at registration, the suitability of those characteristics to situations that arise throughout a career, the form and roles the player develops in his career, and their captain selecting him appropriately. In that sense it is a very organic player development and the end result is, no, the output of two players with the same rating will not subsequently be the same.
