No. Shiv was the best Windies test player by far for a decade or so and he was clearly not playing Bazball style. If they want to return to the Chanders glory days they need to follow his approach.

I also want to run like Usain Bolt but it's not possible no matter how hard I train ..

West Indies have been in a hole for so long in test cricket that right now more than results the question needs to be asked : Do the West Indies even enjoy playing test cricket anymore ?
They barely attract any fans to their home tests , no matter what style they try it's going to be difficult for them to be a top 5 test side anytime soon ..So why not have fun ? What's the worst thing that can happen , because there's nothing to lose right now for West Indies test team .

"I don't think it's the money, I don't think money is the issue, based on the amount of T20 and leagues around the world, I think a lot of players are just not interested in playing Tests."

I don't think anything would work out if you don't want it to work out.

How long ago was Chris Gayle test captain? Didn't he famously say when he was that he couldn't wait for test cricket to die? I think this lack of love/interest for the longer format has been prevalent in WI cricket for quite some time tbh.

I think it was more about him saying he doesn't care if Test cricket dies after being criticized for not taking it seriously. This was after he arrived late to a Test tour because of T20 commitment and that person (Strauss?) said that kinda attitude would be the death of Test cricket.

Yeah I can't recall the context of it or his exact wording but I do remember being shocked that a test captain would come out and say something like that. I'm guessing this would have been mid noughties so we're talking 20 odd years ago......my point being this attitude is not a particularly new thing.

I just think it's incredibly sad for the genuine Windies cricket fans and their past legends to see.

Gayle played over 100 tests averaging over 40. He paid his dues. He was known for making facetious comments at the time.

What happened was the board and Otis Gibson treated him, Sarwan and Shiv like cr@p and forced him to earn his corn elsewhere.

Pooran, Dre Russ and Narine are the ones you can question on love for test cricket. Most players still love it.

On the post topic, I would give a qualified yes. We need more of a balance. We need to mix the Kraigg's and JDS's with more attacking talent.

I would certainly like to see them aim to score at between 3 and 4.5 per over. The decent recent batting performances have been scoring at that rate, showing positivity but not recklessness.

The brand of cricket Kraigg plays will not bring the fans back to test cricket. That's a good reality.
