Should Australis A be granted test status?

Bazza

Why don't Australia send an A team on a world tour then and see how many test sides they beat? Yeah because that's realistic.

I'm getting really annoyed with all these suggestions. First of all we need 6 day tests or rest days because Australia can't win *all* of their games, then we need two Australian teams because nobody else can compete with them or something...

Have you forgotten West Indies just made a world record score to beat you and won three one day internationals on the trot? England won a test match in January - Australia's first home defeat for over four years.

I know in between thes instances they dominate but until Australia are literally sweeping aside *everyone* in *every* game, this isn't even worth thinking about.

I think that the West Indies could deal with Australia 'A' rather comfortably....or I may just be tired...:P

Not many English Players were rested at all a few missed with injury.

That should never be an excuse any way England and especialy Sri lanka were not even compeditive.
I notice you didn't comment on the other part of my reasoning - that the match was a friendly knock about.

Or does that not matter either because it doesn't suit you for it to be counted in the discussion?

What a stupid topic this one is.

For starters - what goes up, must come down. It's a fact. Australia are not going to be this dominate forever, and even to suggest this is absurd.

I'm the most die-hard of Aussie fans but when we have the 'A' team in the 1994/95 summer, it reeked of arrogance.

What I do suggest, however, is to have a solid 'A' team system with all the Test nations, and conduct regular tours around the World - not only would it make players ready for the top level, it would also help bridge the gap between the top and the bottom.

I might add, England could really do with consistent 'A' squad tours. If only Strauss, Kirby and the like got the chance to get ready for Test cricket and play for England 'A'.

A squads have their merits, yet they are nowhere near enough to grant Tests status - rather, keep it as a breeding ground for the future.

That just might work....

Of course, the truth of the matter is that Australia are crying out for an all rounder of the calibre of Flintoff, and until they get one, their team won't be as good as they think it is.

Flintoff isn't exactly a top allrounder as yet. Shane Watson seemed be to coming around....

its ok marc we all know that Aust A would beat england on a regular basis :P
LOL Rob Key hit 174 Not Out vs them! - You should be ashamed of yourseves, he can't even get runs vs the likes of Zimbabwe!

Oh and another reason why not, is that England would get snowed under with fixtures, having to come over and win the ashes not only from the 1st X1 but from the A side as well

The Aussies would kill to have Flintoff.

:O doubt it..... very average test player, nothing special.

Michael Vaughan I would kill to have though - but then most teams would.

I think Shane Watson has hallmarks of being a top all rounder, but there is waaay to much pressure being placed on him at the moment.

Just on Flintoff - he's now 25, been playing test cricket for 4 years, coming on 5, and he's still not doing anything..........

I doubt it. Perhaps teams where bowling is the strong point, but I can't see the bowling lineup of Aus A troubling most Test class players.

bowling would be the weak point of the Aus 'a' team, but it's not a bad weakness to have......

MacGill/Hogg
Bichel
Noffke
Williams

Although there is a lack of pace there, it would do a fair bit of damage.

but consider the batting.....

Hussey
Maher
Love/Lehmann
Clarke
North
Watson/Hodge
Campbell/Haddin

something along those lines off the top of my head.

Can anyone remember how the Aus A - England game went this season?? i forgotten and am too lazy to search cricinfo :p

They were offical list A and FC matches nothing freindly about them.

I dont know about England but Australia dont take warm up matches lightly. It can set a tone for the rest of the summer if you start losing them.

I watched all of the matches on TV and I am sorry but I am not willing to put the results down to England not trying.

If they really were not trying then thats rather pathetic IMO.

He is good we would take him right now I am not denying that but he would not make the test team.

Flintoff has only just started performing for England consistently any way he is good but nothing special.

In the Long run I would rather have Shane Watson I reckon he is going to be awsome.
