Shootout in Lahore

Jeez, terrible news this, and I hope that all the Sri Lankan players are fine, this is undoubtedly the blackest day in the history of international cricket, but one can't help but wonder, why SLC agreed to tour Pakistan, when no other team was keen on doing so, on security grounds.

Of course I can. And reasonable reactions to the comment such as your own are appreciated. Personally, I thought Voltman's comment bore little relation to what had actually happened in the situation and was thus amusing...but I can understand how some would find it offensive.

Anyway, I don't want to have the thread filled with this sort of stuff as it's about what's happening now.
Mate, just get the **** out of this thread and stop digging yourself into a bigger hole. I seriously thought you were better than this.

I apologize to everyone I debated in the past regarding playing in Pakistan. I was obviously wrong. Pakistan is not a safe place to play cricket and we don't deserve to ever host another game. I hope to God that the SL players are ok. I pray for the families of the fallen police officers. At least they may get some comfort in knowing they died defending the honor of their nation. I have no proper words to express the depth of my sorrow and anger at this incident.
Seems the case for the immediate to medium term future mate, but let's hope it isn't a "never again" thing.

Mate...if I cared what you thought maybe I would start digging. I think that's a massive over-reaction, but if it's to be that way then that's fine. Sorry I offended you.

There must be some egg on a few peoples faces given how strongly they felt re: teams not touring Pakistan in recent times. Feel sorry for the Pakistan players, what now for them? Teams won't be touring there for a long long time, and I'd imagine they'd even feel threatened by playing against Pakistan anywhere apart from home.

Such a black day, especially if we see the careers of players shortened by this.

No doubt a massive tragedy, although not entirely sure its the 'blackest day in International cricket', as there have been many bombings before i.e NZ's Hotel in 2003 & thankfully it sounds like the injuries are mostly superficial

Was watchin NDTV couple of minutes ago, both Abdul Qadir and Sanath Jaisuriya were on phone and they said the players were out of danger. Hope that is true.

Some people on CW have the worst sense of humour ever. As soon as a tragedy or a bad incident happens, lets just start making stupid jokes that are so obviously tasteless that it will stir up a reaction from the other members here and when these members overreact, we'll heap the blame back on them and criticise them on not being able to take a joke.

Here's a hint for you all, just consider the gravity of the situation and shut the **** up. There is such a thing as acting in accordance with the seriousness and gravity of the situation.

Most of the members here are top class, great people. It's only a couple of juvenile tossers who like to divert attention to themselves with their cheap excuse for humour.

Spare us your horribly bad jokes, please.

That is great news!

However, I'm still concerned about Thilan Samaraweera. I heard that he was shot in the chest? Is this true? I seriously hope he's okay and it's not as serious.

"When we spoke to team manager, it appeared that there are a couple of gunshot wounds and a couple of shrapnel wounds," said Charith Senanayake, the team's media manager. The injured players have been taken to the hospital.

Local media reported that at least five security personnel were killed and several others were wounded.

"This is a very well-planned attack," according to security official Nadeem Sayed, who said some of the players were in serious condition. "The team is very much scared."

At least four gunmen were involved in the attack on the bus, Sayed said.

Listening to the Eye-witness, It is shocking to hear the details and it seems that it was a pre-planned attack on the Bus. SLC secretary confirms that all the players are safe.
