Shoaib Asif Officially Ruled Out

The life-ban would be placed on both Akthar and Asif if it is found that they were faking injuries, and when 2 dope suspects withdraw from an ICC tournament at the very last moment, then suspicion over PCB's claim of Asif and Akthar's injuries being genuine are pretty normal.

Anyone hear the PCB Chief saying he was unhappy about 2 players "I choose not to name" (Read Hayden and Symonds) having a go at Akhtar and Asif being selected. Of course, no-one dare publically criticise the PCB, if they do then they must be racist.

You shouldn't make stuff up.

It appears that this is going to get uglier than it already is.

Unfortunately, by dodging the first bullet and appearing to run away from further testing, the players have left themselves open to far harsher penalties than would otherwise apply to a first offence

IF the players merely have remnants of the drug in their system and have not engaged in further doping offences, I will be sorry for them if this turns out to be the case
Maybe they shouldn't have used drugs then.
Yeah, probably quoted the wrong posts here tbh but my opinion is that they should have just accepted the original bans. Asif is so highly rated, and his career could be destroyed here. Fact is, the bans being quashed was, shall we say, questionable, and the PCB should have known this would happen.

If Asif had simply served his one-year ban, he could have returned to Test Cricket around November 07 and I do believe this is in time for Pakistan's home season.

You realise there's a code of conduct that quite rightly prohibits players from throwing around insults at each other?

I think there may be some form of out-of-competition testing, as a WADA signatory (as the ICC is, I believe). Which means that you can have your door knocked on at home any day, any time, for a drug test.
Personally I'm not 100% sure how such a thing could be enforced.

Ave of 24.22 and a s/r of 32.78 and going at 4.43 runs an over?

Sorry but
Yeah... hardly outstanding.

Average is moderately impressive and economy-rate's not absolutely disastrous, but still... it's hardly the sort of record that jumps out and makes me think "international material".

This is exactly what's enforced in a lot of international sports. Athletes are required to always inform their national association where they go (be it on a training camp or their mother's birthday), so the Big Brothers from WADA always know where to knock. If you are not where you said you'd be and the Pee Police come a-knockin', it constitutes a positive dope test.

It's utterly ridiculous and coupled with the issue of inadequate product labelling you yourself raised, it makes me very reluctant to cry wolf at every positive test.

WADA are hardly a distinguished organisation in my mind.

I'm dubious enough over the "everyone is 100% responsible for what is found in their bodies" line. But that's just absurd.

There will be legal battle in court b/w Wada and PCb and Asif and Akhtar might end up facing 2 year ban each, it can never be a life ban unless they take drug again.
For a second offence it can be a life ban.

This easily be viewed as a second offence.

It could, but unless the level of nalondrone suggests that they have taken it again after the ban, it shouldn't be.

If they have taken it again, then they should be banned for stupidity. But I doubt they would.

Well it does like our Dutchman said.

So if an average of 24 is moderately impressive, what is an impressive average?

So go on tell me, what would be the record that would demand selection? There have been a lot worse bowlers picked for Pakistan since then, Mohammed Sami being one.

TBH, the PCB are in the wrong to an unforgivable extent by not coming down on them like a ton of bricks in the first place. Everything that followed is irrelevant - once you start trying to protect your drugs cheats rather than punish them, you're no better than they are.

I really wish the PCB would stop dragging the name of cricket through the mud. :(

Players are also prohibited from taking steroids. Didn't seem to stop Akhtar and Asif.
