How did he fail miserably? Did quite well in the ODIs, and performed poorly in one Test and average in another. Not a miserable failure by any means.
yeah i thought he was one of india's better batsman in that tour.

Yeah, seems to get unfairly lumped in with the Afridi types, around here.
Yeah, I use that as a barometer of those who actually know a thing or two about cricket.

Its like an alarm, whenever someone lumps those two they're stamped.

Exactly. He's failed in West Indies - that's about it. It's too easy to jump on a strokeplaying subcontinental player for "he's no use outside the subcontinent" and too many people do it, too quicky. 10 games (which is all he's played outside the subcontinent against ODI-class teams) is nothing at all, especially when it's out of 62.
Plus weren't the pitches in the CT, which was held in the sub-continent, deemed to be fairly bowler friendly.

Played a very good knock vs. Australia, and should have been sent in earlier perhaps. Was never really dismissed too, seeing as he was given LBW to without a doubt the worst decision I've ever seen in an int'l cricket match.

Scored a very well paced 51 from 65 vs. WI which gave India a chance of winning that game.

Meh, Dhoni could fail for the rest of his career, but I still want to shake his hand for reverse-sweeping Nathan Bracken. Best...shot...ever.

Haha, you have some wise analogies Jono.

One of my own is branding Murali a chucker combined with some element of silliness (which we saw, for instance, in the Camel56 types).

Don't think Dhoni played enough games outside Asia yet to really factor into the discussion of how good he is really.
Agreed. Just wish the same logic was applied to discussions of past greats who only played a handful of tests in a given part of the world, but who are considered lesser lights by some on the strength of a handful of matches.

Having a severe relapse, are you?

(Yes, I do realise the post I've quoted was in jest, and so was my reply)

Fairly. But had I not put that there I'd have had a quiet wager on someone quoting me any suggesting that I'd missed the jest in Rob's post.

My initial views of Shaun Tait is that he has talent but has either not made the most of it or faild to make an impresion. I first had the pleasure of watching him bowl at the fourth test at tent bridge in the two thousand and five ashes series in the fourth test were he made his debut. I watched him take wickets with his action in the first innings and thought that he posed a real threat to our hopes of winning the Ashes that year. He faild to make as big an impression in the second innings because (in my opinion) he was conceding runs (most probably by nerves) and the Australians were relying to much on Warne and Lee. Although they were right to rely on Warne and Lee. Tait denied himself a good debut. Now he still has a lot to prove but I think he's definately a player to watch out for.
