It just seems wrong to vote Steyn over Warne.

But objectively, he was getting wickets and winning games everywhere. It's close but Steyn.

the wickets Hammond and Sutcliffe got were no flatter than what Tendulkar got, shouldn't be a factor when rating them.

The 1930s are particularly instructive. The decade runs per wicket average was 32.69, on the higher end of the rankings but not much different at all to the 60s, 70s or 80s. But if you remove Bradman - who in the 1930s made 4,625 runs at 102.77 - the global average for the decade drops to 31.46, even lower than the 1990s!
