SL in 04 does not count since even Inzi and Moin had convincing series victory there this decade.Ponting may have been part of the planning but the results show that only test Aus lost in that series was the one where he actually captained on the fieldPonting in SRI 04?. Plus IND 04 would have been Ponting as well if he wasn't injured, he was very much part of planning before that series. Gilchrist just ran with the blueprint.
Haa come on man. Yea Ponting isn't the greatest tactician etc, but he aint no fool & certanly isn't inept to level that you can say Murali could do as good as job skippering a side full of greats. Criminally underating Ponting's ability as a skipper here.
Actually DWTA.We are selecting the best team so the skipper should also be the best by your logic even Murali could be choosen as the skipper since anybody can manage a bunch of greats.
From all accounts (that I've heard at least), Ponting's very good when it comes to man management. Certainly rallies the troops behind him well.Actually DWTA.
Sometimes the egos can get in each others' way.
Still, you wouldn't imagine it being the toughest job ever would you?
Indeed PAK have won two series in SRI, while even my ENG team won there in 2001. But it shouldn't discount that that winning in SRI is difficult, AUS win in SRI was much harder than in IND 04.SL in 04 does not count since even Inzi and Moin had convincing series victory there this decade.

He does play well with others...What about a Davis Cup captaincy-style role for KP here?
