Sean Devine and Dwight Yorke heading Down Under

Neil won't be happy :D ;)

Neil Emblen, 33, is a utility player who had had a stint with Crystal Palace in the Premier League and Sean Devine, 32, has played in the English leagues, including time at Adshead’s old club, Exeter City. Devine helped City to a shock FA Cup third-round draw at Manchester United in January.

While more than happy with the signings, Adshead made it clear that he will not be following the Sydney franchise, who have signed Dwight Yorke, in chasing a marquee player. "Absolutely not," Adshead said. "We are not about super stars. We want players to come here for the right reasons.

Neil's not overly surprised. Devine's wages are stupidly high for the conferene (approx £1800 per week with a £200 goal bonus), and he was never going to get close to that staying at City when the contract expires in June.

We couldn't offer really much more than £600-£700, whereas I'm sure a team who can afford Yorke's wages can at least match Devine's!

Dwight Yorke is less than a shadow of the player he once was. Indiscipline and fame ruined his game. He's still good to produce a solid game, but used to be so much better. He's experienced the same thing as his good friend Lara did in the mid-90s. The difference between the two sportsmen is that Lara buckled down, refocussed and came back better than ever.

Best of luck to Mr. Yorke.

It shows the quality of this league if Devine is one of their big signings! :D
Well clubs do have a salary cap here Marc, if you knew anything about the new league, you would know this, this is in place so clubs don't end up like Leeds, Bradford, Wimbledon, Exeter, Derby, Dortmund etc.

And another thing you didn't know, the league hasn't started yet.

Other big name targets are Craig Moore (next year), and maybe Christian Vieri (his contract is up next year) and he grew up in Sydney.

a lot of the players have said if Australia qualify for the world cup they may come back and play, Moore is almost a certainty to play for the Qld Roar next year ive heard...

Can't see the Knights doing much...nearly every other side is looking to sign a good european player.

We're signing players from 3rd & lower league divisions in England!

Vieiri will be 40 by the time he gets to the A-League...I can't seriously see him leaving Europe in the near future.

Ah, great news for all Aussie video camera & anal lube vendors!! :D

Seriously tho a question has just occurred to me: with Australian now an Asian country in footballing terms, I'm guessing the A-League winners will play in the Asian Champions Cup; what happens if the NZ Knights win it tho? NZ is still in the Oceanian federation....

I think they're banking on the fact that the Knights will be no-where near winning the competition. When you look at sides like Sydney, Perth etc...the Knights best chance would be finishing mid-table I reckon.

It's a shame though. There's plenty of excellent Asian, South American or African players who wouldn't demand ridiculous wages and prove every bit as good and entertaining as some of the Euro rejects we're looking to bring here.

City are not relevant to that point. There is a major difference between wage overspend and what happened at St James' Park.

not sure whats gonna happen there, but the NZ Knights are not allowed to play in the World Club Championship oceiana qualifiers as Australias Rep, i believe NZ have to send one of their own club sides to that competition...

And I agree.

The last Brazlian out here Fernando Rech was doing pretty well out here, before he buggered off to back to Brazil. To date there are two Koerens in the Queensland Roar.

What was the actual reason Danny Hay left Walsall? Homesick?
