Didn't the great Jimmy Anderson indicate at the time that he thought if the wickets were going to be prepared the way they were, it was probably pointless him being there?Flat wickets? No team scored over 300 at Leeds and only 3 wickets fell to spinners. He was rightfully dropped after that match as the worst seamer in the game.
Woakes took 19 wickets at 18 in 3 Tests, it seemed alright for him. Sometimes you just have to accept you have a great bowler in home conditions who can't do it overseas.Didn't the great Jimmy Anderson indicate at the time that he thought if the wickets were going to be prepared the way they were, it was probably pointless him being there?
In the end, he was right.
Woakes is OP. Unfair comparison.Woakes took 19 wickets at 18 in 3 Tests, it seemed alright for him.
Hard disagree.Sometimes you just have to accept you have a great bowler in home conditions who can't do it overseas.
Harmison was another example from prior generations. Hated touring.Woakes took 19 wickets at 18 in 3 Tests, it seemed alright for him. Sometimes you just have to accept you have a great bowler in home conditions who can't do it overseas.
These decks are great for his MO too. Hits the seam 9/10 times and drops it on a dime.He is a wonderful 3rd wheel when you already have Starc and Cummins. I dont think he will be as good in other roles but sometimes, skillsets and roles just click in a team. He is great at what he does and he also provides something that other Aussie seamers perhaps dont have.
Yeah he is basically your Philander but he really only gets called upon when the main guys are out. Amazing option to have as a backup. These decks are great for his MO too. Hits the seal 9/10 times and drops it on a dime.
not puzzling. Aus had no opening and was dominated by the Big 3 which performed well past 7 years- Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood and Mitch Starc, with his left arm, all complemented each other. They were also very rarely injured until recently - Primarily Hazlewood, this created the opening for Boland to debut and impress selectors. Once Hazlewood is fit and firing again, he will likely take his place back from Boland, and Boland will be on standby. Might be the best standby bowler in test history - atleast on home decks. This guy was unplayable. He is 35 and barely played any test cricket. Puzzling.

Thats correct. Similar figures for both in Home conditions. both unplayable. Stuart clark was similar to Mcgrath in terms of line and length and was a perennial backup bowler. Once Mcgrath retired, he was able to debut ,and play for a few years. Boland waited for Hazlewood to be injured. Both great in home conditions- Swing ,seam , basically everything you want in a fast bowler. Both not express, not military medium either, but deceptively quick around 135kph with bounce similar to Mcgrath.Basically a modern day Stuart Clark
Its not that rare. Bumrah just makes it look that way. For example, 10 were taken last year, by players from 6 different teams iirc.how good is he at home? 6 wickets again. 10 fer for the match which is a rare feat.
